Any problems with games on DLP TV sets?

I am looking to get a 50" rear-projection TV set. I have read very positive things about DLP sets, particularly Samsungs, but I'm concerned about what I hear about lag in playing games on DLP TVs.

Can anyone who has a DLP set comment on the gaming experience, particularly with XBox?

Thanks!

the AVS threads mention lag of up to 1/10 second on DLP sets, apparently from the scaling up to 720p or 1080p (depending on model), on both Xbox and PS2.

It seems to depend on the connection used (composite, S-video, component, VGA, HDMI) and whether 480p or 480i is sent from the console, but I haven't seen a unified FAQ saying what connection(s) and setting(s) are safe.

Some of the lag is apparently going to exist in plasma sets as well, something about filling a full frame buffer before sending it (I forgot to bookmark that page of the 30+ page DLP thread in AVS).

(Samsung 1080p thread)

I'm still probably going to get the 50" Samsung 1080p model myself, I mostly play RPGs with my PS2 and people in the threads say you get used to the lag quickly even in shooters and racing games. My brother has the 61" model and absolutely loves it.

from page 36 of the AVS thread above:

I've fed the Xbox via component using 480i (SW EP2 DVD using game mode), 480p (SW Battlefront, Halo2, Forza), 720p (ESPN 2k4) and 1080i (MX vs Atv Unleashed). ... Everything and I repeat EVERYTHING I listed and tried has needed a delay optimally of 100ms to get rid of the echo and visual lip synch delay.

On the positve side it's only a 1/10 of a second delay for the best display I have seen yet. As far as the xbox I am a casual gamer. For games such as Halo 2 and Forza it took me a few minutes to adapt to the delay. Other games such as Links I did not have a rpoblem. I tried driving the ball several times and used mulligan to hit the ball again immediately and I had no problems from the start. There was however a delay since the tv speaker would echo with the AVR speakers until I put in a delay of at least 80ms. Sounded best with 100ms.

I had two teenage nephews play Halo 2 on my Xbox for a couple hours yesterday (not in game mode). I didn't mention anything about delay and neither of them seemed to notice it. They are both avid gamers. Their only response was to ask their parents if they could get one of these 1080p DLPs.

I spent a few hours playing God of War on the PS2 through component Video and did not have any lag issues at all. The game also looked great. Tonight I am going to try some Xbox games and report that tomorrow.

I played a little XBOX via component in game mode and didn't notice any lag in Halo 2 or NCAA Football 2005. I could kick field goals pretty consistently even though I hadn't played in 6 months.
