any problem with running ddr3 1600 at 1333?

bought 4gb of OCZ reaper ddr3 1600 7-7-7-24 1.9V, but can't get it to run stable at those settings. I was able to get it Prime95 and OCCT stable at 1333 at 6-6-6-18 1T 1.9V. Is there any downside to running it at 1333 instead of 1600? My other specs:

ASUS m4a78t-e mobo
x3 720BE at 3.4, stock volt
NB at 2400, stock volt
1333 6-6-6-18 1T 1.9V


Also, I have not been able to raise my NB from 2400 to 2600 thus far. I have tried raising cpu/nb volt, cpu volt, using stock cpu multiplier, using spd mem timings, running memory at at different speeds. Is there anything I am missing or is my mobo just not stable at that setting?

You should notice no noticeable performance difference between 1333 and 1600 at those timings. Some memory benchmarks might be able to tell a slight difference but actual usage remains the same.

Forget high frequency memory on Phenom2's, low latency 1333mhz is faster. So just keep the memory at 6-6-6-18 1t. As for the NB, make sure you are adjusting the correct variable- the 'NB VID'. For a long while I was in the Bios increasing the 'NB CORE' voltage and wondering why my NB frequency did not show any signs of improving, well, that was because I was adjusting the wrong thing. In my case, 'NB CORE' was in relation to the 790FX chip on the motherboard and not the NB on the CPU, what I required was adjustments to the 'NB VID' which I later found and immediately saw an impact and got to 2.6ghz. NB VID on X3 720's is 1.2v, anywhere north of that should get you to 2.6ghz, for my 955 I use 1.3v on the NB VID. I think with your Asus board, what you want is the 'CPU / NB' variable and try increasing that to 1.3 or 1.35v and see if theres a difference.

Here's the thing: my asus board defaults to a cpu/nb voltage of 1.375 when its on auto. I have seen from other posts that the default should be 1.2. I tried raising it up to 1.4 and still could not get 2600. I tried lowering it to 1.3 and it would not POST. should I try the nb volt instead, even though thats not the cpu/nb? Everest shows the cpu volt at 1.325 and the cpu/nb at 1.375, and it did register when i upped it to 1.4. kinda confused with this...

the problem is that you are not getting what you paid for... contact the manufacturer for a warranty replacement!

now if its out of warranty... then no problem, you really wouldn't tell a difference between the two short of benchmarking them.

CPU and northbridge are completely different...
- leave north bridge on auto
- for CPU, look up the VID (voltage ID) of your SPECIFIC CPU by checking the motherboard BIOS...
In the factory intel tests for the voltage of each chip (they differ somewhat) and inputs it in the chip itself, which then tells the mobo what it needs! they can vary from 0.9-1.35 volts for the SAME EXACT CHIP model!
The ONLY way to know what the VID of your chip is, is to plug it into a mobo and read it up. (you can also use a program called CPUz)

Are you suggesting that even though my cpu runs stable at 3.2 w/ auto voltage I should raise the cpu volt to get the NB to run at 2600?

no. you should not raise the NB voltage.
You should get some testing programs, get cpuz and occcpt and look at what they are saying the VID and current voltage are on the CPU. auto voltage typically overvolts the hell out of your CPU automatically. So my guess is that it is really overvolted. check it out.
