Any presidential campaign volunteers here?

I have been wanting to get involved with one of the presidential campaign hq's in my town, and my time has finally freed up. What can I expect to be doing? Is it essentially just making phone calls and going door to door? What do you say/do when you make phone calls? This candidate happens to be coming to my town Sunday and Monday since I live in NH so I will probably be able to help at this event.

Am I making a mistake by volunteering at an HQ? Any past experiences here?

Thanks.

Oh, and I will not say who this candidate it. This is Off Topic, not P&N.

I volunteered during the last one and we spent time on the phones most nights. Also made signs for rallies, candidate visits, etc. Pretty good experience overall and got to meet several of the state & local reps

That sounds like it worked out well for you. The one thing I don't understand is the phone calling. Is it normally just to inform people about events where he is coming to town, or in my case, about the primary this Tuesday? Or is it more of just talking to the people on the phone why they should vote for your candidate?

Yes, it's all scripted.

It was mostly just doing whatever needed to be done. Standing at busy intersections waving signs, door-to-door, phone banking, etc.

I just got back from making phone calls for 3-4 hours. It wasn't really a positive or negatie experience. Most homes didn't answer. Some people were HUGE @sshats though. Me and the person next to me were told to die in a fire, jump off a cliff, etc.

EDIT: Also, the script was pretty dumb. It made me sound like a robot, so after the first few calls I just said who I liked and why, and asked if we had their vote this Tuesday.

You should have asked what their user names were on ATOT. :D

I love getting phone calls from people trying to sway my opinion.

No shit, I don't care who they are campaigning for, I'd tell them jump in a fire too. Well, no I wouldn't, I'd just hang up on there sorry ass.
