Any prepackaged "home theatre" systems worth what they are?

Me glances over at my H/K AVR-7200 receiver, (2) 85L Shiva boxes driven by a "pro" audio amp pushing over 500 watts to each channel. Yup, I'm an expert ... or, so I like to think that my knowledge is up there a ways.

pssh....an expert would have Sony for everything...all connected up with Monster Cables

Heh, true.

Love the H/K receivers. I have the AVR 630 rated at "only" 75 watts all channels driven. Had someone over who had a Denon 3803 and he couldnt figure out how my HK drove my speakers better than his "more powerful" unit 😀

Gotta love HK. I might not have their highest end system but my AVR-230 does the job 🙂

I got one of those Sony all-in-one things like 3-4 years ago. It was pretty good for a small room. It was a CD player, DVD player, receiver, radio, and the 5.1 speaker setup all in one really small & sleek (back then) unit.

My dad has a Sony 5.1 system. It seems pretty good, but I might be getting confused by his new 55" Mitsubishi HDTV 🙂. That thing is nice.

I got the Onkyo 760, pretty good for the price.

The Onkyo 760 is a great deal. Don't get the 767 the only difference is the DVD player and the DVD is not worth its cost. The 760 is a 6.1 system that sounds great. If you want to spend more money I recomend you get the Onkyo 601 reciever and a set of polk audio speakers.

Actually, I'd love to have something that runs on Tubes, vs. Transistors. I think the sound is a bit more accurate and warm. Anyone got a good Tube amp in mind?

i bought a kenwood htb-504 a few years ago, its been great, i wasnt lookin for anything spectacular and didnt have much to spend...

if i upgraded now i would probably do some research and put together a nice home theater setup instead of doing an out of the box type

Another happy Onkyo user here. I originally bought the HTS-650, and have since added a rear center channel, and upgraded to the TX-SR501, which does 6.1 DTS-ES and DD-EX. I could not be happier.

 

One more Onkyo 760 owner here. VERY HAPPY with it. Fits my needs perfectly.

i tried a few of the "box" systems. all of them stunk. not to mention they were underpowerd.

So i just bought the components. it was far cheaper and sounded better.

You can create a much better package by selecting choice components on your own for the same amount of money........

FYI: I just noticed that if you buy a refurb Onkyo 760 system you get free speaker stands for the fronts. Nice freebie.

Go to the Good Guys, they have some HTIB systems that's not neccessary is an HTIB. What they do is they package together different components, speakers from different manufacturers and give your an HTIB. My favorite little system from them (when I used to sell their stuffs) are the Take 5.1 + Denon receiver package, for ~ $900.00
