Any point in upgrading?

Was thinking is there any point in upgrading my Radeon 8500 64mb OEM(250/250) to maybe a retail Radeon 8500 64/128mb or GF4 Ti4200? Or should I just hold off till I can afford at least a Ti4600?

I'd say to hold off... but not for a Ti4600. Skip the GF4 generation, save up your money, and go for a Radeon 9700 or nV30 in a couple of months.

Well, I'd say that if your current Radeon card is playing your games and DVDs well enough for you for now then hold off upgrading until after the NV30 comes out. It is going to cause ALL the other cards to get real cheap really quickly.

I'm sitting on my GF4 Ti 4200 until then for the same reason. 🙂

When are the new Nvidia cards due? Also will they be called GF5 or is there no set name yet? Also by how much do you all think the Radeon 9700 will drop in price after the new Nvidia card hits stores?

I don't know what they will call the NV30 cards. And I don't think the Radeon 9700 Pro will drop all that much, it is ATI's top of the line product right now (non-Pro graphics). But if they release a souped up version of the 9700 the older version might be 10 or 15% cheaper, maybe more. But the GF4 and Radeon 8500s will probably plunge in price.

This is all speculation on my part, I have no source other than personal insight for my statements. 😀
