This is for a project that's due in about a month. I'm in a group that's focusing on the economic factors of the digital divide, and part of my research is about how hardware prices have fallen over the years. I have a snapshot of 1993, 1995, 1999, and current prices from parts sheets I've randomly kept over the years. Does anybody know some online database or some site that could give a better picture than my isolated data?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Thanks, I've tried that, but back before 1999 or so, the places I've looked haven't had prices online. Maybe I'm just not searching for the right companies though.

edit:
Looks like I gave up a little too soon. There is some stuff from back a while, like 1996 or so. Thanks for the help.

I'm hoping to get info back to 1990 if possible. I doubt I'll be able to find it in this way, any bright ideas anyone?

Go to a library and find some old copies of computer magazines.

I do this when I'm trying to kill time between classes, its always neat to see an ad for a $3000 386 w/ 2MB of RAM

Thanks Yomicron, I just got done e-mailing my Mom (who works at a library) to see if they had anything from a few years ago. I guess great minds think alike.

SuperTool, that's great stuff, I can't thank you enough. I can't seem to find what that book it is, could you enlighten me?

Come to my house. Rummage through my barn. I can tell you within 50 cents how much I paid for every piece out there.:(

I got some magazines from the library, rather my mom who works there did heh. She got 6 from 1995, guess I didn't explain myself very well as I wanted to get one from each year.

Anybody know what computer magazine has been around for the longest?

Hey there, just making sure this thread stays alive for a little while longer before I get to doing the actual writing for this. Any fresh ideas would be appreciated.

Computer Shopper is probably what you're looking for. It's nothing like how the current Computer Shopper rag is laid out. Back then it was a huge phonebook-like newsprint magazine that was full of ads, some decent articles, and a bunch of other good info like user groups, bbs's, and such. Just for kicks, I dug out the Sep 88 edition with the cover page showing the new Mac II computer, and the words "Microsoft Enhances Windows". Compaq had just released its new super powerhouse PC that outperformed every PC on the benchmarks: 386sx-25MHz Deskpro model 300 with a 300MB hard drive, capable of up to 1.2gb of fixed storage using a RAID-like interface, all yours for only $13,299. Ahh those were the good old days of Intel domination.
