Tried ebay but no luck. I want to buy a few of history channel programs but the prices are ridiculous. $34 for a 50 minute DVD? $49 for a 3 disk special? You've got to be kidding me.

Can you elaborate a little more on what all you would need for this?

You just get a little computer. Maybe around 1ghz would be enough. THe fast ther better. Get a splitter and split whatever signal thats going to your tv. Plug into the computer and record!

Only thing you'd need over a regular computer is a video capture card.

For all that money and trouble, you can just get the new Tivo that records straight to DVD.

Ok, I want to clarify. This would be a present, so burning is out of the question.
