Any performance difference between Slot 1 and FCPGA PIII?

I am buying a processor and have the option to use either Slot1 or FCPGA.
Why would I choose one over the other?
I am leaning to the Slot 1 because of the difficulty installing the FCPGA (having to press hard to clip the fan on) and of the possibility of cracking the corner of the FCPGA and not showing up until the oem warrentee is gone.

Just compatibility with older motherboards. AS you have a slot1 MB, I assume its a BX. Make sure your MB can handle the lower voltage requirement of the >600 P3s. If not go with a slotket that will fix that.

First of all.. if you crack the corner while putting on the HSF, no OEM warranty will cover it. You may have been able to get away with RMAing it a year or so ago, but stores have gotten smarter. I assume that you have a Slot1 board and you are planning on using the FCPGA with a slotket if you are asking which you should buy. If this isn't the case and you are also getting a new board, the choice should be obvious.. go for the FCPGA, slot1 is obsolete. Even if you are getting one to use with a slotket, get the FCPGA because if you change your board later, you can use the CPU on the new board.

Not true. Both the Slot 1 and FC-PGA cores are mounted the same way on the substrate, with the core exposed directly to the heatsink. Check out an OEM Slot 1 processor: they use the OLGA mounting, organic land grid array, that allows direct contact with the heatsink.

If anything, the Slot 1 processor has better heat dissipation characteristics since the heatsink area is much larger than that of the FC-PGA form factor.

I do have a board that has both the slot1 and FCPGA option (chaintech).
I agree with the obsoleteness.
The cracks problems I read about were internal and would show up later after getting thermal cycling.

I did not have that problem personally with my 1yr.old P733.

Also, I would like to try the P700 for o.c. but have the 815e and have also been told that the sound will not work o.c..
Can anyone verify?
