Any people double majoring here?

After taking my calculus two honors and doing well in it, I got an email from a math faculty member. They said I was recommended by my professor and I should double major. Double majoring may tack on another year and half depending on how much I add to my course load.

But is double majoring worth it for your profession? Is there even a pay increase at all? And if there is will it outweight the year and half of not working at all?

I'm thinking it would be better to just go ahead and get a masters in CPSC which takes a year to a year and half.

If you are deciding between a masters and another major, it's easy.

EDIT: I am accounting/business admin major, with accounting being my second. I didn't want to go through masters for accounting because at the end of the day, once I get my CPA, there isn't much of a difference. But I think it depends on what industry, masters = proficiency, whereas two majors = wider knowledge.

i double majored in econ & government. it was pretty painless and i had no trouble finishing in 4 years. then again i did take a few summer classes and tested out of a bunch going into college.

For a technical position, I can't see there being any pay increase between single/double majors. Definitely go the masters route if you're choosing between one or the other.

Why take the time and effort for two BS degrees? In the end all you will have to show for it is a BS level job with BS level pay.

If you have two interests, get a BS in one field and an MS in another. Then when you get a job in either field you usually get MS level work with MS level pay.

That said, if you can possibly get two degrees in the SAME amount of time as one degree, it won't harm you. But it is a rare breed of person who can do that.

*edit* to clarify, i meant that a double major doesn't always get you 2 degrees but i know that it can

BA English; BS Biology...I've used only the Bio degree in 5 years out of school....I say go for both. double major, then get your Masters. No need to rush. money will always be there.

EDIT: but if this is what a math degree allows you to do....why bother?
