Any other way to increase Movie brightness? Using ATI Radeon 7000

Here is my situation:
I use ati radeon 7000, if I use the driver that come with the cd (very out of date), I have the ability to change the brightness of movies/videos that I play, and this brightness doesn't affect background brightness, eg, start menu/icons/desktop, only the video gets brightness changed.
If I update my driver, this option is gone/not working no more and when I play the video it's extremely dark, and even when I put monitor brightness/contrast to maximum it's still rather dark. Is there anyway I can manually set the video brightness/contrast to Maximum without affecting rest of my desktop?
Anyhelp would be appreciated.
My monitor is a 19' Proview ps-998

Do you use ATI's multimedia center to watch dvds? If so then there should be an option in there to change the brightness etc.

I use windows media player to watch all my video files, Currently using version 6.4

Update: Just installed Media center and I don't see option anywhere to increase brightness

WMP 9 has color and brightness, etc adjustments.

Powerstrip maybe?
