i'm not sure how many different types of internet connection they offer these days. aside from the most popular dsl and cable, are there ones that are better and relatively cheap, if not cheaper than cable or dsl? i just moved into a neighborhood which neither cable or dsl companies i like because i have heard problems about them, but not sure if there are any alternatives.

i used to have Charter cable which provided me with digital cable tv and internet access for a monthly fee of roughly $100. that includes most of the premium channels except ppv and on demand adult and sport channels. i figure that's a fairly good deal since it means about $1200 a year for a mediocre bandwidth i'm getting.

anyone have any ideas? i live in glendora, california.
any feedbacks or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

thank you in advance :)

satellite internet (satellite down and modem up)

ISDN (very expensive)

"shotgun" modems (silly)

you really can't beat cable or DSL

hmmm..., okay...
i wish there are more companies out there for dsl or cable so the prices are more competitive and perhaps create a race for a more stable and better connection.

i'll still keep checking for other solutions. thanks for the input. :)

we are testing satellite at work

the upload speed is only 56k, ok if you are only web surfing

the latency is noticable and sometimes causes failed connections to sites/resources

and of course, if it rains really hard, you lose the link

overall, i think satellite is only a viable solution for somebody living in a shack in the wilderness
