Any other programs like Maxivista?

MaxiVista turns any spare Desktop, Laptop or Netbook PC into a dual monitor for your primary computer. No extra multi monitor hardware is required. Simply extend program windows across multiple screens as if it were one big monitor. Increase your productivity by using multiple monitors.

This program has been around for a while and lets you extend your desktop to another computer's monitor. Are there any alternatives, especially free ones?

The three that come to mind are Ultramon, DisplayFusion, and Multimon. I can't remember if you have to pay for them or not... Ultramon at least has a lifetime trial, I believe.

Synergy, hands down. I have a 4 monitor setup using 3 computers (win 7, snow leopard, ubuntu 9.04)

Synergy is great but is a software kvm, while maxivista allows a user to spread his desktop across monitors attached to other computers so that the desktop real estate of the primary computer/monitor is expanded. Very different programs.

Ultramon doesn't do the same thing that maxivista does...it just makes it easier to have multiple screens on a single system.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any programs that work like maxivista. I bought it a few years ago, but I don't feel like paying an upgrade fee to use it with Windows 7. If it works with 7 as well as it did with XP, it's totally worth the fee though.
