its hard to take you seriously when you get all emotional over a tatoo thread. and its awfully clever of you to point out spelling/grammar errors in an informal forum.

I would have to say that tattoos still have a negative connotation within a professional working environment. Whether this stigma is founded or not, it is my opinion that even if people do not say anything to you, having visible tattoos would impress an automatic judgment into your professinalism.

I have 3 tattoos. One is on my chest of a heart with a sword/dagger in it. The other 2 are on each arms on the deltoids. I purposely did not get any tattoos that would be visible under normal conditions.

In your case, I would probably get used to long sleeves until you can scope out the environment and determine what THAT work environment is like.

dont get all emotional on me too.... I left room for exceptions as I've seen some very well done unique and beautiful tatoos but the remainder have been trashy. clearly you are getting offended because your tatoos aren't in the 2%

I've experienced plenty in my days dont worry about me. getting a tattoo is not a life experience that I believe would add any value to my life at this point in time perhaps it will change down the road. I've been invited to several tattoo parties in my day and I have politely declined.

I'd keep 'em covered until you can feel out the area and see what others are doing.

I agree that it shouldn't matter... but I also know that they do, in general, carry a negative "stigma".

When I clicked on the link, I briefly saw some woman on all four on a bed with some guy above her looking like he was lasso'ing her.

I quickly closed the window.

LMAO! They don't seem to like you linking to their files.

I only get the picture if I copy and paste the link in. Clear your cache, and try it.

You are an idiot 100% of the time.

No offense to you and your tatoos man, but if they were classy people wouldn't have to worry about displaying them in a professional environment.

What do you consider 'classy'?

I think the general consensus is that a tattoo carries with it a negative connotation. As an attorney ANY negative image isn't good.

Since, however, I am going to be working in an internal/business casual setting I was just wondering if others had any experience with co-worker reactions.

FWIW I am going to keep them covered at least until I have established myself via my work skills and had a chance to determine the how the culture would react. The organization does offer/promote a lot of on-campus activities and team sports so they may be exposed sooner than expected.

couple of years ago i seem to remember someone filing a lawsuit for what boiled down to Inked Discrimination. No idea how it went, but i thought it was interesting. I kept imagining some reformed gang member with like 4 tear drop tats under their eye

I am getting ready to get more art put on me. My boss and coworkers know of the ones I currently have but they are not visible when I wear polos. The one I am getting started this Sunday will probably be more visible because it will go down near my elbow. At this point I really don't care because I have been here three years and I have proven my skills.

However, I did keep them unwraps for the first year here.

The interviews were in full business attire so my arms were not visible but the actual work environment is casual/business casual.

I have two tattoos, one on the inside of either forearm. While the tattoos are not patently offensive, extremely large, or in bad taste they would be clearly visible if I wore Polo type shirts.

I am leaning towards keeping them covered up as long as possible or for as long as I work in this environment; which I can do by simply wearing nice collared shirts.

Any other professionals with visible tattos that want to relate any subsequent reactions from co-workers?

BTW: I do not regret getting the tattoos. They are very important to me.

i have about 5 co-workers with tattoos on either their arms or shoulder area. I have only seem 1 of them display them at work...and honestly, only about an inch of it is shown in a polo. It isnt a full sleeve, it is just some design, so it is hard to make out.
