Been having a lot of fun playing this older series - particularly assault squad 2.

I probably dont play it exactly like most people though, what I like is just playing single player skirmish mode and do this:

- carefully plan defensive positions
- try to disable enemy tanks/vehicles
- try to recover said damaged vehicles and make them my own
- do daring special ops using a few commando type infantry behind enemy lines, like flank an enemy at gun, kill the crew and demolish the gun, so my vehicles can move up

what I dont like is the maps have very static scripted enemy reinforcements based on how many flags you took. i.e. in the beginning the enemy will send one infantry squad every several minutes or so, over and over again until you take the next flag which then triggers them to send a light tank plus an infantry squad every few minutes, over and over again and so on.

I wish they were more random/dynamic with that. There is a neat mod available for the game which caters to the way I like to play which gives you a base to defend and supply trucks which drive to it so you can buy new equipment and the enemy pours in from all around in greater and greater force for one hour but I miss being able to recover enemy vehicles when they are constantly pouring in and it only lasts one hour total which is a bummer.

So are there any other recent games that sort of let me play like that? WW2 theme is great but it doesnt have to be. I guess you would think I like tower defense games but when I think of that I think of awful retro graphics or 2d scrollers but I really treasure realistic graphics for this.

So any suggestions?

First of all Men of War Assault Squad 2 is not an "older" game. It is actually, very, very new. It only came out like what... 6 months to a year ago.

to be honest, there is nothing out there quite like Men of War. These games are very unique in certain things they do like free aim for example, or individual looting and customization of units.

Very few other RTS games allow you to pick up a rifle an enemy soldier dropped and equip it on individual units.

Sure, CoH also has that, but it's more dumbed down there. MoW is much, much deeper. It has a concept of armor, and where it is thicker or thinner. It deals with range and elevation as well. It allows you to pause and slow time to a crawl so you can aim better. you can also disable enemy vehicles and take em over! I love it.

In CoH you can also, do that, but the way it's executed is nowhere near the same.

The only issue I have with MoW is that in multiplayer its set to a crazy speed and there is no way to slow it down. It is as if everything is on speed. It is annoying and completely ruins the gameplay experience.

Oh, it feels old because the single player seems to be almost exactly the same to the older title. I was a bit disappointed about that since I don't touch the multiplayer aspect. And then each of the nations missions are basically just carbon copies of each other.

But it's a great game, lots of depth to it. I could really use more single player variety though.
