Any other exchange programs besides JET?

I just gotta generic rejection letter today for the JET program so I'm looking at other programs. Kinda sucks cuz I really wanted that and it seemed like I was a great candidate also. Majored in English, minored in Japanese, tutoring and educational assitants experience, intercultural expriences, and public school classroom experience also. There's always next year, but I was wanting this so bad. Blah.

So anybody have any experience with other similar programs and would like to share?

I just got the call and email inviting me for an interview today and here I was beginning to think they had rejected me.

Damn you!! I think it was one of the references I used. I saw a snippet of it and it was all around the middle, some were even lower. Damn her!!!

Interesting, both my references let me read their letters before hand and they were quite good. One guy said, "It was raining once and there was this puddle and I swear I saw him walk on water."

can you guys explain the jet process to me -- application and all. what do i need to apply beyond a bachelors degree, and what are they looking for?

<--- physics major, looking to add a major in japanese; only teaching exp. i have is teaching my friends how to solve things in math or physics-related ee problems...oh, and editing people's essays...:\

I did the JET thing over ten years ago so I don't know how valid my advice is now but when I applied, besides stating you want to become an educator, I was told not to focus on Japanese skills since they want you to use English and not Japanese. Also, it was recommended to ask for JHS and not HS because they need more JHS teachers.

There are other programs around the world, but not quite as accessible as the JET program. My friend works in International Admissions and he said that he knows of programs in Florence and Prague. I will try and find out any contact numbers because I would like to do this before I start getting serious about my current job. I was going to do the JET program, but I applied too late. You might also want to check with your alma mata's Internationl Admissions department as well.
Good luck and keep us up to date!

If you find out the contact info, mind passing it along to me? I want to go back to Europe (studied for 5months in Denmark), and if I don't get this internship in Denmark I don't know what to do next year.

From what I've read NOVA is really crappy, try ecc:

I have an interview coming up with them soon.

I've found peter payne's page to be helpful in many ways:

Check out his store lots of wacky stuff there.

Teaching in japan discussion forum very good info from people who have actually done it:
