The NV5 is just down right ugly and I'm looking for a better air cooler for my 6800 Ultra.

Any other coolers out there ?

Ugly? how is it any more ugly than stock? Heck, it's not even all that visible through the side window of my case, and doesn't look ugly at all mounted on its side. Plus, the low-noise and better cooling were bigger deals to me.

There are other coolers out there. They're all water blocks. The only alternative air cooling solution is the NV 5.

Not true, here is another solution

Zalman MC80 review

Zalman makes a line of air and passive GPU coolers. They rate pretty well when compared to the artic coolers and look better.

I seriously doubt that heatsink will fit on the 6800 card, or be sufficient to cool it......

I just recently upgraded my Sapphire 9800 Pro Ultimate which was cooled with the Zalman solution to a BFG 6800GT OC to which I have added an NV5.

With the 9800 Pro the Zalman got HOT until I added the optional Zalman fan, which was VERY quiet. The Zalman cooler looks super cool, no doubt, but it did not cool my 9800 any better than the folks have added the NV Silencers to their cards.

Also, the Zalman will NOT cool an 6800s memory -- even the stock coolers on 6800s cool the memort. I would wager using the Zalman would result in damage to a 6800, especially an Ultra.

Adding the NV5 to my 6800GT was a breeze, it is very quiet, moves heat outside of the case, and my GPU temps drop nearly 10c. It is an inexpensive solution and quite effective.

I suggest you forget about the asthetics and buy what works, man!

Cheers!

If all Zalman ZM80s mount the same way, it appears they're not compatible with a 6800U. You're going to need a fan with a ZM80, anyway, and I think you'd prefer exhausting that hot air right out of the case (Arctic Cooling Silencer), rather than pushing it onto the CPU and MB (Zalman + fan).

Why not paint the NV5's clear shell? :)

Thanks for the replies guys:)..The reason I don't like the NV5 is because it's pretty much the same design for Ultra, GT, X800 pro, 9700, 9800 ect...

I had a Artic Silencer Rev. 3 on my old 9800 Pro and it was pretty much the same thing as the NV5

I was just looking for something that was a little different:cool:

Ok, so it won't fit. But y'all have to admit it looks much cooler than the NV silencers...

And I haven't seen one yet that is listed on Zalman's site as compatible with the 6800GT or Ultra. to quote from their site:

This product is not installable on an nVidia GeForce 6800 GT, 6800 Ultra because they do not have 3mm holes around the GPU.They're quiet...but every test I've seen (on ATI cards) shows them as hot when compared to the Silencers; good for a quiet cooling solution, but not one where the card is overclocked or tweaked hard unless you add a Zalman fan kit, which takes more space, and the fan kit is listed as required when using the cooler with any Geforce 58xx, Radeon 98xx, Matrox Parhelia, or higher. I also wouldn't want something that heavy hanging off my graphics card.

302efi, just my .02 but I don't mind that their coolers look somewhat similar if they get the job done: quiet, with good cooling. The NV5 has actually made some strides from the Silencer rev. 3 (I've owned both). Oh, and as a note...used to have an `84 LTD LX with the 302EFI-HO in it. :)
