I've always been a quasi-fan of them here and there but never hard core, but when I got the opportunity to go for free I jumped on the chance.

I have to say, I was really impressed with the show they put on.

They sounded great, they were really chatting it up with the crowd and even some of the songs seemed like they really put some "emotion" into it more than I would have expected considering they've been doing some of those songs forever now.

All in all it was a great show though, I went with a guy that saw then back in their "....and justice for all" album tour and he said he thought they were better now than they were back then in what some would consider their "prime".

I guess them all getting sober actually paid off.

I really got a kick out of the end of the show, they dropped a ton of beach balls from the ceiling that were all black with Metallica on them and as they performed the last song, the crowd and band members were all kicking them all over the place, funny shit.

Some pics.

Cool stage tricks
More stage moving stuff
Flames blasting out in time to the machine gun fire of the song "One"
More flames
Big balls
More balls
Balls again

i saw them a few years ago, post-St. Anger. fortunately, they didn't play anything from that album!! they put on a great show; if you haven't heard the Metallica S&M album, i HIGHLY recomend it - they play live with the full San Fran Orchestra.

What the heck's going on with the guy in the left part of that picture?

Is he a g-g-ghost?

Nah, I was in a box/suite and he was in the suite next to the one I was in.

They divide the suites at that level with glass but further back into the suite where the fridges and sinks and bathroom are it's all solid walls.

 Forgot to mention that, they didn't play a single song from that album! That cracked me up. Even they realize how much it sucked I guess.

I've seen them twice, once in Buffalo with the "cunning stunts" back in the late 90s where one of them drops from the ceiling, etc. It's been a long time, I can't remember the details. Great show though. The other one at Darien Lake was more mellow as it was outdoors. I see they changed up the stage now too. They're pretty elaborate.
