Heh. I've heard older members speak "fondly" of buy.com's fail, but I wasn't there.

yup, this.

You're both senile. UBB was decommissioned on 9 October 1999 and since Zuni couldn't write a goddamn script to port over all the users to his godawful forums software, everyone had to register again. There was no 'member database' loss, please get with it.

Maybe they should start fulfilling those orders now... I'm sure the cost of the monitors have fallen significantly since. :p

Nope, they had moved to Fusetalk long before that, maybe a year or more before. On 10/09/99 our member database died, and every single poster had to re-join -- hence the oldest join-up date you will ever now see is 10/09/99.

You are completely and utterly wrong.

I was there, I ought to know. We had already been on Fusetalk for months and months, the UBB days had been long gone. The database crashed, and with it ALL membership info, and couldn't be recovered.

Every single member had to re-join.

If you still are under the sad delusion that you are correct, I will bet you a sum of not less than $100 but as much as you wish ($1,000 is nice, round number), to be held by a mutually agreed upon 3rd party through paypal, and I will get Anand himself to verify just how wrong you are.

So . . . are you just a big mouth bore with extreme accuracy issues or do you have the courage of your convictions, son?

Still around though it's been a long time since I've been here. Just was relating this story today and got me to google it.

I wasn't a WMC because I was one of the few who got the monitor. I still have it and still have my best and most favorite memories from gaming on it. I miss the CRT's for gaming as they always were so smooth with vsync off and 120 refresh rate.

I also got the invite to go visit with them but politely declined. I eventually ended up making some drivers for this monitor for new OS but have kind of lost them over time. But I did give them out freely to quite a few people who needed them.

Can't remember many people though a few name ring a bell. Mostly Viper as he was into some of the same racing games as me.

Oh, I also created the initial database of names and emails of all the WMC's and passed it along to the correct people for the lawsuit. Though I doubt anyone here remembers me. I had a lot of great times here, especially before the crash back when the forum was so young.

Ah.. Value America. I ordered a Weight Bench for $50/shipped after using my Value Bucks and they ended up sending me 3 of them.

No idea why they went out of business.

I remember Billy Wilson of Voodoo Extreme posted an email I sent to him whining about the fact that he wrote it up and was going to ruin it for everyone. I was wounded even before buy.com even reneged on it.
