When I turned 16, I got my G1 learners permit.
2 months after I turned 17, I got my G2 drivers liscense. (I can drive by myself, any time, everything as a full liscense except no blood-alcohol, which has never been a problem for me)
So now I'm going to be 18 in just over a month, and probably going to get my full license in a yaer (huge lineups - over 9 months anywhere in Ontario)

So basically I've been driving for a year and 9 months roughly, all with my parents in the car. I've driven the Toronto to Niagara Falls on the QEW stretch multiple times.

So tonight me and my cousin visiting from the Slovakia and my good friend want to see "The Fast and The Furious" Playing @ 9:40 and 10:20 EST.

I ask my dad if I can borrow the car, he says "NO. You're gonna go racing just like the pot heads in the movie your gonna see. Take a taxi or call your other buddies."
Aside from speeding a bit on the highway (I usually hang around 125kmh when I can (clear enough traffic))

Is this fair? :frown:

In my whole entire life I've only drive alone once, and that was to drop my friend off, who lives 7 minutes walking distance/2 minutes driving distance away.

That is going into assuming you actually are mindless and would imitate what you see on a movie screen. Does your dad have that much faith in you???

bahahahah, thats funny. i saw it just the other day, and my parents were out of town, and I took my mom's car. would make a great car for racing, but I didn't. Of course, it was raining out, but even if it haden't been raining, I still would not have done anything.

Your dad was right!

I'm 18 and I drove the car to pick up my buddies to go to the fast and the furious. Well let me tell you, on the way back from the movie I was driving well over the speed limit. That movie has made me a BAD DRIVER!

Just as an aside, I've also got my G2 ;)

Imaginer, I know a fair bit about cars, and me and my dad both came to the conclusion that there's a vacuum leak since we got a new carb put in 2 weeks ago. So the car runs like 5h!t, and if you're not careful it'll stall coming off idle (switching gears, accelerating, etc).
So the car wouln't do anything even I wanted to try.

Heh, after the movie my dad asked me "So, did you learn how to race your car now?" or some other such "you just saw something cool and dangerous and now you must be completely brainwashed of everything cerebral" type of comment. :|

Okay, I did want to drive fast, but fast to me is acceleration, not so much speed. I just want to get to the speed limit ASAP. :)

I did manage to contain myself though.

ISAlot, I'm into the same thing.
Speed doesn't do much for me, and in a 1986 Parisienne with a torque pig engine, it's not a speedster. But it hauls nicely from a stoplight......that is....when it DOESN'T HAVE A VACUUM LEAK. The car shakes worse than a 25cent vibrating bed in a 25dollar motel at low revs.

So it is all in the matter of seeing the movie instead of driving then?

Movies may have influence, but for the intelligent and educated movies give us a good laugh.

I was a bad driver while I was driving home with my friends after seeing the movie "Gone in 60 seconds" :)

If you don't own the car and pay the insurance on it, then its perfectly fair.

Id be upset too though.

Imaginer, it's not even that.
I think it's just that he doesn't trust me.
It wouldn't matter if I was going to see a documentary on the life of the Buddha, for example.
I'm also on the insurance policy as a secondary driver paying $800 a year....to help out my insurance rating for the future; that is if I ever get a car. Honestly, I'm not the greatest driver, but I've driven a fair bit considering I don't drive alone, and I've learned to drive on the car (1986 Parisienne...18feet/5.5meters long...)

All I have to say is this sucks :( :frown:

Lets see;
1)Two young teenage boys
2)Going to see a movie about racing cars in regular streets
3)Its the dads car not the kids
4)Boys like to have fun and will try to show off

It is a bit much personally for him to do that, int he case of this movie I will make an exception. Its jsut like "Rebel without a cause" and parents had the same reaction. Why can't he drive you though?

My dad "has to go to work in the mornings" unlike myself, my last exam was today (WOOHOO! :D)

Glad at least you got a laugh out of it Geno.
My dad is a character.... ;)

Dually, I thought I mentioned the car's running like 5h!t anyways.

Anyhow, I obviously didn't today, but I'm gonna go tommorrow with my buds.
Gonna catch the 7:30 showing!
