It looks quite good and Fujitsu has a good reputation for solid business machines (more so in Japan than in the US).

Check out the LeoG Fujitsu Notebook Forum for more discussion of the new S7010

I've actually recommended both of my friends get the big brother of the P series - an S series Fujitsu. Similar performance/battery life/lightness but since it will be the primary PC for both of them, the bigger keyboard and bigger screen (and extra 4-500mhz) for a little less money makes a lot of sense.

S7010 also is sold here at PortableOne/LaptopsInc

Personally, I'm more interested in the upcoming revision of the smaller P-series, the rumored P7000 series. The Japanese version LOOX T70H has just been released in Japan and people say the new model is due to be announced in the US next month.

I'm considering buying this laptop for college, the only reseravation I have about it is that one review I read said that the keyboard was flimsy. I really don't like keyboards that aren't solid.

concerns over the keyboard quality are unfounded, the problem has been resolved.

Just several weeks into its release, Fujitsu is planning to update the S7000 series. They also informed us that concerns over the keyboard quality are unfounded, the problem has been resolved.

On the keyboard front, it appears that the scare started by PC Mag was completely false. Well, not really false, but not accurate. Fujitsu made the mistake of sending a pre-production unit to them for review. During Fujitsu's final testing they realized keyboard support was weak and reinforced it before going to production. It was too late though for PC Mag, who published the article before anyone knew of the fix. It's always hard to get the genie back in the bottle, but the negativity surrounding this issue may be part of the reason for the quick refresh.

My new S7010

Contrary to some early reports the keboard is great. It is firm and the keys have a good range of movement and feel. The small comma and period keys are gone and everything is normal size.

The combination of a 1.7ghz CPU and the 60gb/7200rpm drive makes the S7010 almost as fast as my P4/2.8 ghz desktop. This combo really flies! I installed DV editing software on it (Cinestream 3.1) which works just as well as it does on my desk top. Photoshop CS runs at nomal desktop speed also.

my S7010D review (W/ P5010 comparison)

As far as the keyboard is concerned, I have noticed a little flexing (only when I pressed really hard) but nothing extreme about it. In fact, I really couldn?t find anything that I didn?t like about it. As a test, I let my wife use it for a little bit but did not tell her about the PC Mag article. She is a good typist and I know that she would comment if she found anything unusual. She used it for a while and then when I asked her how she liked my new laptop, she said that she liked the keyboard and display! She has now used it many times and has never found anything that she has said that she does not like.

Going from the P screen to this screen is amazing. Not only is it big it is bright. I have seen the Sony x-brite displays and I believe that it may compare in brightness (though it is not as glossy). I had become accustomed to leaning forward over the P to look closely at the display but that is definitely not necessary with this unit. When I use the S for a while and then use the P I find myself trying to turn up the brightness of the P?s display (when its already as bright as it gets) and saying to myself ?Doesn?t this thing get any brighter??
