Any opinion on the HP7150 or Epson 825 printers?

Sorry, but as a former HP and Epson fan, I would like to point you in the direction of the Canon i850. I think for roughly the same cash.:)

The canon only has a 4 color system while the others have 6. I heard the canon is very worthy but would like to stick to the new 6 color systems.

Why?

If you don't print alot of photo's, then a 6 color is a waste IMHO.

If you want to a lot of general printing, with a couple of photos here and there, I'd recommend the Epson C82. It cost about $50 more than the 825, but you might be happier with it.

Buy a 900 series Canon then. You get six separate, large ink tanks, instead of a single color cartridge that you throw away when one of the five colors runs out.

Yes, the s900 has 6 ink tanks, the i850 has 4.

I own the s900 and it prints photos extremely well.

However the i850 is a newer model and is said to print comparably, if not better than the s900 and at about half the price.

i850 has a new print head with smaller ink droplets.

Debateable how much better 6 vs 4 ink wells are, theoretically 6 might save a slightly on ink costs over time.

The 6 ink tanks are not large, but your overall statement is correct about only replacing a tank when one color is used up.

Again, the reason i pointed you to Canon i850 in the first place was because it is in the same price range as the HP and Epson you mentioned.

As far as comparing it with other Canons, it is probably still the best bang for the buck, not to mention newer and more advanced.

I would never buy a printer with one multi-color cartridge. For every 1 yellow cartridge I use, I go through at least 4 cyans & magentas.

I did a lot of reading before I bought my latest printer (HP cp1700, kicks @ss!). One thing I read in several places--the 6-color printers have more fading problems. The 2 extra colors (light cyan & light magenta) apparently fade much more quickly.
