Is Mobil 1 the best?

All are they all the same (excluding the regular oil/synthetic blend)?

I will be using it on a V twin 25hp engine and the manufacturer recommended it.

Thanks.

There was a very lengthy thread about this not too long ago, try a search and see what you find.

I have no first hand experience, but many tweakers of German Cars such as VW and Audi's pretty much preach the Mobil synthetic oil. According to them, the turbo engines run and shift much smoother.

Once again, I have no evidence besides the words of a bunch of car tweakers.

I worked on a Government contract that required us to us Mobil 1 in all their vehicles.

It is one of the best.

Mr Isla, who is changing the axels on his sister's Civic as we speak, uses AmsOil synthetic (I guess his uncle distributes it).

He seems to think it makes a difference. The again, he is always 'sperimenting. :)

Dang, that air compressor he uses is LOUD!

Nothing based on scientific evidence from me.

My son's pickup, a 96 ranger 4.0L, had lifter noise at a cold startup for about 40 seconds. Mobil 1 brought this to just about nil. Same weight oil and filter type was used in both cases, 5w30 and Deutsch(sp?) filters.

My wife's 96 Brinco showed no difference in engine noise at all when we switched to synthetic. It also didnt make as much noise. In her case we switched to valvoline synthetic (it's what they use where she gets the oil changed). Her engine also has much less miles on it compared to the son's truck, 40,000 compared 70,000.

I have used Mobil 1 in my '4.0L 97 Ford Ranger since I got it and it does not make the dreaded lifter noise on startup. I change the oil every 5K and it's never had a problem.

Always use what the manufacturer recommends.
I`ve used mobil 1 in my `90 maxima and i still hear the lifter chatter at warm up. However the engine idles much more smoothly.
Next week i`m buying amsoil atf & 5w30 engine oil. I hope it makes a differnece.

I think I read in Motor Trend a while back that synthetcs hold up better in freezing temps. I think Chevy was putting Mobil 1 in all new 'Vettes a few years ago, don't know if this includes the current C5 or not.

I think synthetic is the way to go. Change it once a year (with new filter), about 10K or 12K miles. Less labor that way. Changing it more often is over kill. I insist on greasing the suspension myself and giving the underside of the car a careful inspection at the same time.

Be careful using what's called "synthetic" oil. There was a great article in Car and Driver a few months back discussing it. Yes, Mobil1 is arguably the best, a true synthetic. Mobil1 just sued Castrol, saying that Castrol's synthetic is petroleum based, (it is) basically the argument was the definition of "synthetic". Castrol's is petroluem based, so it isn't a true synthetic. The court sided with Castrol. *I* would only use Mobil1. They are the cornerstone of synthetic oil desing.
