any opinion on HP notebooks?

Depends on what you are looking for. The Inspiron 8600 is a good deal right now if you are interested in a DVD Burner. I just ordered a zt3000 CTO form Best Buy and here are the specs:

Pentium-M 1.5
512MB RAM
60GB 5400RPM HD
15.4" WSXGA+
802.11G / Bluetooth
DVD+RW
64MB Radeon 9200

There is a 10% coupon floating around for hpshopping.com. I got the sales manager to match the final price of the laptop after mail-in-rebates and ended up with a $1723 laptop + tax AR. Not too bad. I could have paid less by going with Dell but I got 18 month no interest financing and the Best Buy PSP which is less than 2 miles from my house in case something goes wrong. I wish I already had it so I could give you a better review on it. Since the laptop is nothing more than a Compaq X1000 in a different case, owners and reviews of that unit should be albe to give you some information that you are looking for. Go here for more info.

I have about 1800 - 2000 to spend on a desktop replacement. I want to play games, nothing really FPS hardcore, but something in the middle I guess.

Any ideas?

wide screen is ok, the lighter the better. CEntrino is good too. any ideas?

i have an HP AXP based system. ze4420 I'm pleased with my purchase, i like it better than friends laptops I've dealt with... a P3 based dell, a P3 based Gateway, a P4 based Toshiba, a P4 based compaq.
