the only thing I can find on Google is testimonials.

Thinking of getting one of these at walmart with the ten 10% off. I got eaten alive last night working in the yard.

I also live in MN (rural)

I bought the smaller verrsion of mosquito magnet (covers 1/2 acre) for $299 + propane tank $30

I have it running for the past 2 1/2 weeks. I look at the containment trap every week and do not see a lot of mosquitos (8-10).
I am kind of doubting the wisdom of my purchase since I could have easily killed as much mosquito with my hand.
I am giving it a few more weeks since the mosquitos are not exactly out in full force. Come to think of it maybe it is working.

I researched mosquito devices and it surprised me that the only two things that work are Mosquito magnet and DEET.

Citronela oil--does not work (only works if you are under the smoke plume)--bought a ton of these before
Ultraviolet electric zappers---kills mostly beneficail insects and may actually attract mosquitos--also have this

Maybe I should just buy a couple of rabbits cover them with DEET and leave them outside. It should work as the principle is the same, Body heat or hot breath attracts the bitting mosquito lands on the DEET covered animal and dies. No need for fancy VAcum device or replacing the propane tank every 21 days.

Will update you once the btting insects come out in full force

peace

edit your link isnt exactly the mosquito magnet
This is what I bought and was told what was used by the military to recalaim some mosquito infested land in the bahamas or something

I heard that bats are effective. Going to build a bat roost this weekend.

I actually have a bat house in a detached shed. Make sure they don get into your house.
A bat got inside our house one day and that was one freaky event.

The real mosquito magnet emits CO2 to attract the mosquitos. The octenol is just a supplement.
I would research more on the subject befiore dropping $170 on that wallmart unit

I can retrun it if it does not work.:D

I figure I will buy it if it doesn't work then I can return it and get my money back.

No loss to me really if it doesn't

If it doesn't work then Target carries the mosquito magnet for 300.

Actually no. So maybe it is working.

The real test is will be in a couple of weeks when they really come out.
They claim that it aslo catches Horseflies those things sting like a bee.

I have about 3 acres of lawn propert and surrounded by 17 acres of forest so dont expect them to be totalyy gone but I was hoping to be able to at least go otu on the yard let the kids play on the swing without getting anemic

I guess so far no bitting yet but I will give it 2-3 more weeks to really put my recomendation in to see if it really works.

edit on the price I think I paid $299 for the 1/2 acre unit and the tank cost $30. But if you hate mosquitos and want to enjoy the 3 months of summer Minnesota has to offer it may be worth it.

I bought one last year and it was pretty effective. I typically could not go outside at all in the summer due to the mosquitoes as my property is is surrounded by quite a bit of wetlands. It was nice to be able to use the deck finally.

Oh - I bought an actual Mosquito Magnet (I think its made by American Biophysics) - not the Coleman version. I believe it cost $500.

I've lived in Panama, and now Florida, and I have never really been bothered by mosquitoes. For some reason they just don't like me, nor do I have any reaction from their bites. The rest of my family, on the other hand, is a fvcking feast for mosquitoes :p

They had an article in the paper here yesterday about these things. They said the best thing is DEET. They claim these machines may attract more mosquitos to your place but didn't dispute the fact that they did catch a lot of them. Also said the CO2 cloud they create is in a funnel shape and since most mosquitos are around ground level by you, it's not going to do a lot of good
