Any one try the mid-tier/higher end sealants or waxes? aka Blackfire Wet Diamond?

Looking to find a new sealant/wax. Typically used meguiars with decent results. However started to do some research online and came across a few detailing forums, that seemed to recommend a few products.

After more digging, it looks like some of these forums are run/moderated by the people that sell/produce certain products, and the products themselves look to be made by parent companies. IE seems shady.

So trying to find opinions of these products away from forums that are ran by the makers of these products.

With that has anyone tried a higher end wax like Blackfire Wet Diamond?

IIRC, BlackFire is primarily retailed from autogeek which is Mike Phillips who used to be from Meguiars less than a decade ago. If he had any input during it's design then it's not just full of unicorn c_m... that still doesn't make it worth the extra money though.

In my experience, find an OTC product you like and keep using it, double as often. That seriously is far better than buying expensive wax/sealant and using it half as much. 🙂 For those no so in the know, sealant is any synthetic wax that cross links... which there are MANY. So don't get too caught up in the 'seal' part of the word.

Which Meg's products did you like and what properties? Perhaps we can steer you toward a similar product. I know it can get boring. 🙂

used to like normal meguiars liquid wax. Switched to nxt, and like how it lasted, but it wouldn't come off easy. Might try the ultimate.

was thinking of going with the fancier sealants, but at 3x+ it gives me pause.

Thanks for the history on mike philips.

I used Meguiars for many years. Now I have a good supply of SmartWax & Chemical Guys Products. The sealants seem to last a little longer.

Interesting! On both of my cars NXT 2.0 didn't last very long, but I absolutely loved using it! It went on and off easy. You also don't need much. <1oz for a sedan.
Definitely try the Meg's Ultimate Wax next. Skip NXT 2.0. Nothing wrong with it, the Ultimate Wax is just a few dollars more and highly regarded.

Longest lasting sealant, Armor All Extreme Shield Wax. Actually I think it's more of a polymer... Anyhow regardless, it's averaging lasting 1 year in 3 cars I used it on. Easy application, don't need to try, just make contact with the paint... 15 mins after every wash if you want. Slather with one hand, wipe with MF towel with the other. Once that MF is full, use that to smear. Popular with off-road truck forums, repels dirt and hydrophobic. Kinda fun to see the water fly off when you wash your car.

Bad thing... water spots show easily. It doesn't damage the paint, it's just when the water dries you can see minerals left over. Easily wipes off. Other bad thing... it doesn't add beauty, it really just protects... but usually for a year! Majority of beauty also doesn't come from wax anyway, it's the pre-prep.

I agree NXT 2.0 is pretty easy to work with plus it smells pretty decent too. I have some 1000p that I applied July 4th weekend and it's still going pretty strong.

I love BFWD--been using it for 5-6 years now.
Goes on Easy-Comes off easy.
Probably over-priced but I like it.

Looks great on Jet Black and Metallic Silver and Cashmere Beige Metallic!!

ETA: That whole empire of Car Stuff is a Gold Mine owned by the same person under different Names:
Palm Beach Motoring, etc., etc.

They're all out of Stewart, FL and making a killing!!--Believe they also make the "Lake City "Pads.

But yea I like BFWD a lot.

I've heard really good things about Optimum. I've recently switched to Sonax high-speed wax for all my vehicles, and I've been extremely pleased with the gloss, beading, and ease of application. Blows any high-speed wax and many pastes/liquids I've used out of the water. I use Griot's Garage on my leather, and I generally stick use Meguir's or Mother's on the interior/trim. I use Mother's Gold class shampoo/condition wash, smells really good, to me at least. I have a few Eagle One products as well. I particularly like their Nevr-Dull product. Works great on stainless/chrome finishes.

BF makes good stuff, Dodo Juice makes fantastic waxes. I just got 2 new BF products and really like them both, AutoGeek will hype them up because it's one of their house brands, but it's still a very solid product line. Meguiars Ultimate Paste Wax is probably my overall favorite. I have a few pots of $80+ wax and a few spray ones. And I usually go back to the Meg's stuff.

Wet Diamond's a sealant, if you want to go the sealant route I'd honestly suggest Sonax Polymer Net Shield. I just picked up a bottle of Adams Polishes H20 Guard, haven't had a chance to use it yet but people are raving about it. Adam's makes good products also.

Yes, the parent company is Palm Beach Motoring Group and if they also make the "Lake County" Pads, then for sure BlackFire is the real deal. Well maybe not a deal, but I suppose can be if they have a sale. 3M also recently owned Meguiars. I'm glad despite having a rich parent, that, they still are the Meguiars of old... just more distribution.
