I've got an HD4870 now and would like to get it wet, with the hopes of upgrading to a 4870x2 in the future. These blox are so damn expensive.

A water block for an HD4870 WON'T fit a 4870X2. If you really are considering upgrading to an X2, don't bother buying a block for the 4870 and wait for the time when you get the X2 (which I assume isn't too far off) and buy a block then.

You could also buy the block for the 4870 and sell it when you get the X2? Thats a little riskier

 
Wont fit.

the X2 is a uber long card.

FC blocks are almost NEVER cross platform compatiable.

Even die shrinkages almost always require a new block.
