Anybody know how, or know of a program that will do so, to do this (hard to explain):

I have a large image. I have various bits of text below the image. When I mouse over a bit of text, I want a small image to appear at specific coordinates on the larger image. When I move the mouse off the text, I want the small image to disappear again. Each bit of text should cause the small image to appear (on mouse over) at a specific spot on the larger image, sort of like floating above the larger image. Does anyone know how to do this, a program that will do this, or a website that has something that does this. I am not talking about a mouse over image swap! It would be nice if I could make the small image appear at specific coordinates on the large image...

Thanks for any help! :D

I think you are talking about setting up an image map. I am not 100 percent sure though, I am like 50 % sure

you could do it as an image swap actually.

one way you wouldnt have to use layers. just cut your larger image into smaller images and swap those smaller images where you want the small images to appear like theyre on top of the large image.

other than that, you would have to use style sheets to place a picture on top of another picture. you could start out with a blank gif. then you could swap the image on top of the large image with a blank gif so it looks like its appearing and disappearing.

Mouse over image swap (or is it some similar javascript function?) does precisely that what you want... Check Macromedia Fireworks tutorial, they implemented this exact thing.

I told you it was hard to explain ;) I know how to image swap, but that is not what I want. I need this to be pretty precise, meaning if I cut up the large image into multiple slices, it would be thousands of slices and thousands of image names for me to keep track of. I don't want to have to do ANYTHING to the larger image. I want the smaller image to more or less be put over the larger image. Only thing I can think of is those stupid punch the monkey banners, where you can move the glove around, except I don't want the "glove" there in the first place, and I want it to appear where and when I need it to...I have Fireworks, and it doesn't do what I need it to...

you should be able to use style sheets to place any image on top of the large image wherever you want it to be. try doing an image swap with a transparent gif and style sheets. the original picture layered on top is a transparent gif. when you mouseover switch it to the new image.

I think dcpsoguy may be right in what I want to do. I really don't want to swap images, I want to make an image appear, and I want it to appear at any specific location without having to create a new image for every location. I really want to use coordinates, such that the smaller image will appear at (x,y) on large image...hmmm :(

Maybe I am right..... :D

I think your best bet would be to download an image map program( search tucows and download.com for image map), and experiment with these programs, seeing if they do what you want to do. I would try to download CoffeeCup Image Mapper. I dont know if this can do what you want it to do, but It is worth a try. You also may wanna search the web(yahoo.com, etc) for image map, and go to some graphics design communities and ask some people. Here is a resource that may help you: Graphics Design resources
