I am getting ready to take the CCNA Certification test and I was wondering if anyone in here had taken it and passed it. If so.. Let me know what kind of things will be covered most. I have taked 6 semesters of Cisco and I just want to know what is going to be on it!

Yep. Been certified for just about a year now.

The test is pretty dynamic, and it's adaptive. So things you miss will get asked more often. In general though, you expect a lot about subnetting. If you dont know how to subnet like the back of your hand, you will have trouble with this test. Expect a decent amount about L2 switching, and IOS configurations. Routing protocols such as RIP and IGRP. I think they put OSPF on the new exam. There is also things about VPN technologies on the new exam.

Have hands on experience too. While you can pass the exam without hands on experience, it makes it harder. You'll also be a fish out of water if you get thrown into a networking job and dont have hands on.

Make sure you read everything twice. Cisco is notorious for asking one question in 40 different ways. I'd have missed a few questions if I hadn't read them twice.

I'm currently in Module 3 of 4 from Cisco Net Academy...

Are you eligible for Version 3.0 testing? From what i gather, they've split the Final exam into two separate Exams... Not that it's any easier, but my current instructor suggests it might help to get more people interested in networking as a career (??)

So far, we've been prepped to expect major subnetting, anything that has a timer, know it (ie convergence times for different routing protocols), and other stuff that we haven't covered yet.. :p

In short, it'll be difficult, but as long as you study ahead, it's supposed to be relatively straight forward, and more about common sense then anything else...

Alright, good deal. I am pretty well off on subnetting. I hit that part hard when I took the CCNA prep test. As far as RIP and IGRP are concerned im fine there. How much of the test is concerned with subnets in different classes? (i.e class A, B, C networks) As far as hands on is concerned, do you mean router config hands on? Or just setting up networks or what? Open Shortest Path First protocol is a walk in the park too. Do I need to know metrics for different protocols? (i.e. hop count, bandwidth, etc.) I just wanted a heads up on the test. I dont wanna be cold on a test im paying $175 for. Thanks guys! Give me a little imput on the hands on part if you can!

Boscoh's right...don't overlook the L2 switching stuff. It sounds like you have a good handle on router side. Make sure you understand Spanning Tree to some degree and you know the OSI Model down cold.
It's been a year and half or so for me but I can remember more than a few questions about that stuff.
Or have they changed the exam up that much since then ;)

Expect subnetting questions from every address class.

You need to know how to setup routers and switches at the command line.

And yes you need to know metrics.
