I have a local show here Marketpro. But thay claim 40-60% off retail prices. Well I think thats bull$hit. they charge you 7$ just to get in to LOOK! I bought stuff there and then checked pricewatch and I just brooke evan. Is it just me? Or do there deals mostly suck?

I think the Marketpro shows suck too...I've been to a few here, and the prices are awful

well, it depends on what you need, and if you can get in free. I mean, a floppy drive for $12 ain't bad, and if you get in free, you're good to go. Cases too, sometimes.. altho onvia has some good cases for the same price shipped....

But again, it's all based on need... IE Y-spliters are a $1 there, works for me.

But myself, I haven't gone because i can go to a local shop for a $15 floppy, and the prices on everything else.. well, just don't work for me.

I refuse to pay to get into a place where people try to sell me something. I go if admission is free but am real careful about what I buy. Try returning something.

I live in the San Fernando Valley area of L.A. I just got back from the local swap meet. They had PC-133 Micron, Toshiba or Infinion 128 MB for $73, 256 MB for $154 and the Abit KT7 (without RAID) for $129. All this is plus tax, of course, but also no coupons, rebates or anything else, but here's the money, and here's the goods. :D

The show I go to in my area is run by the LA Computer Fair and they charge either $6 at the door for 1 say ro $25 for the whole year. The prices at the shows are equivalent to those on Pricewatch minus shipping charges. Also, you can bring the item back to the vendor on the next day (The shows run from Sat - Sun) if there is a problem with the part. Just tell the door man you have to exchange something and they will let you in free for the day.

problem w/ that is.. what if you try it out monday? Or in 2 weeks the part goes out? Where is the store now eh? A lot of them disappear or are hard to get to, just becomes a hassle.

Yes, I know it can be a pain to ship things too, but I'd rather do it w/ a reputable online company than a so so comp show store (unless of course the store is local to you).

There are two nice things about the L.A. shows. The vendors are all local, and the same guys show up at all the shows, so you know where to go for your recourse, and it's nearby. :)

I only go to computer shows if I happen to need something right away and there happens to be a show that weekend or if I need small stuff that would cost more to ship than to buy.
