Any one else's holiday plans completely ruined by weather?

So I was going to drive home ~500 miles (Evansville, IN to Bloomfield Hills, MI) to spend Christmas with my family and other relatives I only see once a year, if that. Then, 2 days before I was going to leave, the biggest fvcking blizzard this area has seen since sometime in the '70s hits, and I get stuck here 🙁. Every expressway out of town is closed, and my car is in a parking lot with snow up to the fenders. I mean, just what are the fvcking odds.

Looks like Christmas by myself in an empty apartment this year. Anybody else get fvcked by Mother Nature with a strap-on and no lube for the holidays?

No, I really can't say I did.

That sucks - it's mid 70s here in south florida, but then again we had to put up with 3 hurricanes pummeling us all summer, so I guess it evens out.

FoBoT had a couple of threads asking for road condition info - sounds like he's stuck en route. He's got it worse because he's not even home, he's trapped somewhere in Kentucky.

Wow, that's terrible 🙁. They had stories on the news about one family who was stranded in their car for 8 hours overnight w/ no heat because they got stuck and ran out of gas.

I found this link that has the road conditions on it. No good news, I'm afraid 🙁. At least, not for the roads from here to MI.

 for everyone who's got travel problems on the holidays.

I'm supposed to go trail running with one of my former teachers today, but there's like 8 inches of snow on the ground. Oh well, it'll be fun I guess.

I was supposed to make a trip yesterday, from a little ways above Indianapolis, to 50 miles south of Columbus, Ohio. I've previously made it in about 4.5 hours - would take a little more/less depending on how high the state patrol is that day. It took me 12.5 fvcking hours. The freeways were hell. I was on I-70E from like 1:30 PM to 11:15 PM. I-70W was being closed in multiple locations...

Oh well... nothing left to do on a snowed over freeway than hammer down!

I wonder if those huge broncos and wranglers with 1.5 foot lift kits can forge through that kind of snow.... I'm sure that somewhere out there, theres at least one country bumpkin having a blast driving around in 4 feet of snow with his rediculous truck...

No snow here in Afghanistan. Its only the the 40's. Hopefully nobody thinks to attack on our biggest holiday here.

No matter what you're driving, once you get on mud, ice, or snow, it's a matter of who YOU are that determines where you can and can't go. It takes BALLS to get up the neccessary speed and keep it while sliding all over the damn place. It takes skill to keep yourself from dying in the inevitable skids.

I live in Canada, not one flake of snow, a little bit of sun and about 4 degrees celsius...I thought we were supposed to have the snow???

Well, it's supposed to rain all week starting Sunday, but that means there's going to be a lot of new snow up at Tahoe, so maybe my mountain biking trip will have to be replaced by a snowboarding trip.

To answer the question you were wondering, yes they can.
