mine is currently torn. i tore it this snowboarding season, i went off a jump and landed harder than my knee could handle. i didn't fall or anything, just hit the ground to hard and it tore.

i went to the dr's and they had me get a MRI on my knee to be sure. and sure enough, it was torn.

my surgery is going to be sometime at the end of this summer.

you don't NEED to get it repaired, but if you are active at all it will lead to accelerated arthritis. this is also something that will never heal on its own. also, it will give out and hurt like a b1tch if you do anything active and put even an ounce of pressure in the wrong direction.

What makes you think its you ACL it might just be your menisci.
I jumped off a house one time and tore my menisci aka cartilage.

I don't have one, but I can verify all that CattleGod said. My good friend tore his about a decade ago and never got surgery. Once in a while, it pops and then come the screams... oh lord, the screams.

I tore my ACL and meniscus landing awkwardly after going up for a rebound. When you landed, did you hear or feel a pop? If you tore it, you'll be in mucho pain. Your knee would also be real swollen. Persistent swelling will tell you if you need to see a doctor or not.

"Popping" sound

Pain in the knee

Immediate onset of swelling

Instability of the knee?a feeling of looseness within it or that it can't be "trusted"

not too much swelling in my case though. But i get alot of poping and some mild pain.

I have a friend who had tore his ACL twice, now he has a cadaver ACL. It was fun making fun of him for having a dead person in him :D

yes i know i know. I have no insurance yet. I just got my job to pay for it. I took insurance instead of a raise. 2$ per hour more. Blue cross blue shield PPO. I think. there in the middle of switching from another company.

Man I would like an MRI soon too, I have my knee wrapped in a nice tight ace bandage type or knee brace/wrap. CVS has them for 10$

this wrap totally helps big time. My acl may just be stretched. I hope.

i wonder what a MRI cists anyways. I bet 300$ at least.

i partially tore mine in a soccer game about 6 months ago, didn't have to have surgery but was immobile for a while. Right when I did it I knew that I tore a ligament, i felt like I got shot in the knee.
