Say guys, in your opinion, what is the very best most up to date and current, AGP graphics card available today?
I realize AGP is history and hard to find much but I am into a project and need the help.

Ok thanks to your help, I've done some research.
Here are the upper end cards I can get for an AGP interface.
Tell me of these cards, which has the best price/performance value.
Thank much.

Nvidia:
7950GT $299.00
7600GS
7800GS $180.00
7800GTX
7600GS $100.00

ATI:
X1650PRO $70.00
X1950GT $130.00
X2600XT $170.00

What games are you trying to play? It might not be worth your time to spring for an upper echelon AGP card if something like a 7600GS would do.

Good point but I have tons of money in my current system and would like to get another year out of it and be able to play as many high end games as possible

Right now the newest games I have are Kane and Lynch and Blacksite area 51.

HiS 2600XT

should i still try to get it or just wait for the 3850?
newegg had it before xmas for 169.99 after a 30 rebate which i thought was really good. now it's just hard to find.

Why not the 1950 Pro.
Is it because the 3850 and 2600 are DX10 compliant?

how good is the 1950PRO? i'm trying to find it on newegg.

at the moment i'm running XP and i want a card that'll give me more FPS in my games.
i currently have a X1650PRO 512MB and is does about 26-30 fps in my steam games with all high settings and with a mixture of high & medium settings in BF2 & BF2142 runs smoothly.

i'm still doubting whether to jump to VISTA and figured why not get a DX10 capable card.

Looks to me like the 1950 is way better than a 2600 in specs BUT, the 1950PRO is DX9 if that matters to you. To me, I dont care about DX10 until I redo my whole system and go Vista. Until then, I like being able to play all my old games like, Hitman, Halflife,Max Payne, etc.
There is a link in this thread for the 1950 but its for sale at Dell right now with full specs.

The 1950 simply is a more powerful card than the 2600. The only thing "beneficial" basically from the 2600 is DX10 performance and even that sucks because there's not a lot of GPU power there to drive a DX10 game. That's besides HTPC perks in which the 2600 is a great card.

you're right. i prefer to stay with DX9 until i build a fresh DX10 machine in the future.
so what's the best AGP 1950 card available? my only preference is 512MB.

That card is bad to the bone dude but, you know its going ot cost a fortune and thats where it gets tricky. how much can you justify investing in an older AGP set up?

Impressive looking card...

VisionTek is rumored to be releasing one as well...

However, as of today, there are no published availability dates.

You are using the 550 watt Power Supply in that system right? If so you will be fine. The 1950 cards don't work well with anything less than 400 watt PSU's.

Your best bet is probably a 7900gs.

XFX 7900GS (450/1320) $156 after $30MIR

Seems to be getting hard to find the x1950pro agp these days. Might check for a used one or something like that. Otherwise wait for 3850 agp or just face it, time for a system upgrade.
