The actual LCD, not the glass.

Were you satisfied with the quality of the replacement (color, pixels)?

I started a thread in the gadget forum about a coworker's phone I'm repairing. I suspect all the eBay / Amazon sellers have bin-sorted reject parts (based on mixed user reviews).

Take it to apple, pay $199 for a new phone (they'll want your old one back)...otherwise you can go the ebay route, but I wouldn't waste my time.

No thanks. I'd rather deal with a $24 screen replacement and the "hassle" of swapping with the seller a few times if it's DOA.

Seriously, there's no way I'd recommend paying $200 to have Apple replace the screen. The most expensive one I can find from an Amazon seller is < $65 and includes the entire top half of the phone (glass, touch digitizer, LCD, speaker, Home button, brightness sensor, face sensor).

I have replaced a couple.... Its pretty easy. much easier if you get a complete unit with the digitizer/glass but its not a deal breaker. I have a few bad screens if you need one.... Youtube has a number of videos on how to do it. pretty much two small screws on the bottom use a good suction cup and from the bottom of the lcd use the suction cup to pull it out... it will be "hinged" at the top. Take your time and be careful those ribbon cables can be a bit finicky.

Use the apple or gadgets thread

You mean the forum I mentioned in my OP? I had already posted there...and didn't get something as valuable as AMDMadness' contribution here.

I've taken apart a few iPhone 3Gs before, and I even tested the coworker's 3GS with the LCD from my own working phone...so I'm comfortable with disassembling and reassembling. Her husband broke the LCD while trying to replace broken glass (I think he tried to separate it from the frame without removing all the screws and bent the LCD).

They already have the replacement digitizer and glass that they never even got to try installing after the LCD broke...so I just need the LCD. I'm just hoping they haven't lost any screws!
