I have this severe hatred of change so I just throw it all in a bucket at the end of the day and forget about it. The bucket is one of the little ones that kids use for trick-or-treating. Anyways, the bucket was overflowing so I took it to the local grocery store where they have one of those machines that sorts it for you and gives you cash.

End result? $102.95 AFTER the 10% fee the machine charges! :Q

How much change do you have laying around your house?

man you got hosed! 10%??? thats outrageous. Should be 2.5% at MOST. My bank changes it in for free. Unfortunatly I live in a toll state, so most of my change goes towards tolls.

Also, my dad turned in his change bucket once and had 600 dollars.

I have a 3 gallon bucket i keep. When it starts to get heavy i turn it in. If we deposit it the bank does not charge. If we cash it in they take like $2 fee forit.

I have a water container 1/3 full. All silver, no pennies. Probably about $600 or so.

BTW, I'll roll it myself. I'm not going to pay 10% to have a machine count it.

I have a jar that fills up about once a year. I usually have around $350 in it when I cash it it. Oh, and no fees, since I work for a bank. :)

The trick is to get your kids or some little ones to do it, and give them some sorta reward. Its fun for kids, and they get something!

yeah...10% is alot, but then I got to thinking. A coing sorter is a good $20. The rolls are a couple bucks, batteries another couple bucks, and then the time to unjam the thing everytime you use it. I will happily pay $10 for something or someone to do all that work for me. We just walked in and dumped the bucket into the machine. Every couple minutes a message would pop up that said. "WOW, you have a lot of change, please wait while I catch up."

That made me laugh.

My gallon jug was a little over a third full, it had roughly $150.00 in it when rolled, no charge to take it to my Credit Union.

I've got a coffee mug that I put all my change in. It recently filled up and I counted out just the quarters. I had just over $40. I need to get some rolls from the bank and then roll them up and deposit or get cash for them.

Most banks have to break it open anyway when you cash it in, to make sure your not filling them with slugs.

I have two manual sorters, one 7 and one 12 years old that only charge me 3% and I can normally con them out of that.

Damn, 10% is quite a bit.. I think it's only 8% here, lol.

That said, why not just take it to your bank? Mine doesen't charge as long as you're a customer, at least.

We had a 1.5L Superior glass bottle that was filled about 1/2 of the way before we went on a few long trips involving tolls. Now it has mostly pennies Im afraid :(

Oh, and yeah.. we have one. My girlfriend used to count it every couple of weeks, but it started taking too long.. lol.

The last time she counted it was 2/22/04, and there was $59.73 in it.

I should ask her to count it tonight. :D

I have a wine carafe that I fill up periodically. I'd fill it up in just a couple months when I delivered pizza, but now it takes a year or so. I usually get $100-$110 out of it when completely full. I roll the silver and take the pennies to the machine. They're not worth rolling myself. :)

I have a big glass jar about 3/4 full but about half of it is pennies now. I use mine to buy stuff I don't really need like bags of chips otw to work. I feel like they are free that way :).

In Japan, I had $3K in change in my garbage (change) bucket 2 years in a row.

Nothing like tossing coins worth $5, into it as savings.

we save up our change and after it get high enough in the water bottle it is stored, we roll it and put it in the bank. Then we buy something nice or go away for the weekend. We gotta have a couple of hundred in there now.

I could not give 10% as commission. It is way too high. 5% for me not to have to roll and put my account number on the side might make me condsider using one of those machine, but 10%... screw them. My daughter and I usually put on decent music and have a little coin rolling evening. Just us. It is nice and very rewarding ... in more ways than one...

:)

Funny you should create this thread. I was cleaning out the garage yesterday when I came across a few 10L water containers, and thought it would be a good idea to start dumping my change in one.

Yeah, I have a little wicker pot thingie that I toss change into. Mostly the pennies I don't like to have floating around or in my car. I think when I cashed it in I got about $30 back after paying like 3% for the service at a WinnDixie that had one of those machines.

I had about $200 in change before I came to college, now I've used all the quarters on laundry, so It's probably only like $30-50
