Any of you guys ever create and sell art pieces or furniture?

For awhile now I've been thinking of coming up with some kind of arts and craft product and then attempting to sell it online. Kind of like this guy here - http://www.georgiametalart.com/

I'm really fascinated by this kind of thing, I've always been a creative person and I would love to make a living (or at least some extra money) from my art. Just curious if anyone here has attempted this kind of thing before. Also I would be interested in seeing more links like the one above.

Where do you live?

Lots of local artists have success teaming up with a local cafe or bar and have their artwork put up on the walls for sale. This obviously works better with paintings and photographs, I'm not entirely sure what you had in mind with arts and crafts but doing the local thing and having a link to a website is always a good idea. I've purchased lots of interesting artwork from local places.

edit: you might look into local consignment shops too, I see lots of local art, furniture, etc for sale in places like these.

the problem I see with paintings and photographs (edit: and abstract sqiggly metal) is that there are eleventy billion people who think they're creative/talented - the market's basically flooded with dreck. I think you'd need a really compelling "hook" and/or personal connections to folks with deep pockets to ever make more than a pittance. In the art world wealthy connections are pretty much the difference between success/failure.

I've designed a number of custom furniture pieces (and signage) as part of architecture projects I've worked on, though those are usually fabricated by others for very high $$ rates. I build things myself in special circumstances and as a hobby. This is a bedside table and a coffee table I did a while ago (before I knew anything about photography):

I have an iron maiden wrapped in the skin of the innocent in my basement. It really is magnificent, when you look at it in low light. The inside of it, however, is where the real beauty is. I have taken the faces of all the victims and lined the inside of the iron maiden with them, so that when someone new is put in the can see the screaming faces of those who came before. It's terrifying, and I quiver with glee every time I get to use it. Everyone know this.

I make a lot of my own stuff...made the built-in entertainment center, my bed, my dresser, etc. I don't sell em. It's just stuff I do for myself because I can make exactly what I want.

i made really nice touchscreen jukebox out of an old student's desk.. i've been thinking about making and selling them... but parts alone run anywhere from 350 - 500 depending on the setup..

i'm not sure how much $$ I can make on top of that

I've seen some decent art at local coffee shops and restaurants. Selling from between $50-500 depending on the piece. Some pieces do sell. A lot of the art is obviously amateur, but that really doesn't make it any better than "professional" art.

A local place here was selling paintings made by 2nd graders (they were all terrible) for $10 each and nearly every one was sold. Go figure.
