I brought our little pop-up camper out of winter hibernation two weeks ago so my friend could borrow it to go to the Englishtown drag races. Last week we had it open and were cleaning - it got me in the mood. My wife and I love to go for a weekend or extended weekend trip to state parks and such. We started in a tent several years ago, but during one fateful night up in the 1000 islands on Wellsley Island we endured the mother of all thunderstorm (lasted for 4-5 hours, dumped 3 inches of rain, and created a runoff stream that ran through our site and tent!). My wife had enough and we made the pop-up purchase the next spring.

I love cooking over the open fire, pitching some horseshoes with friends, and sitting around the campfire under an open sky conversing with our friends.

MAN - i want to go home, pick up the wife and baby, hitch up the camper, and go NOW!

Yeah, i'm a camping fanatic. I don't dig your style though. I can't stand being in crowded campsites with everyone in their RVs or campers. I do the wilderness thing. I love being with a couple of friends and not having anyone else around.

<--- doing all 211 miles of the John Muir Trail this summer!

Camping is great. I often enjoy going down to Moab and camping around Goblin Valley. It is so amazing down there. The rocks are incredible.

I hear you LaBang.

We try very hard to get the most secluded spots/sites that we can. We generally choose state parks because they are usually more "primitive" and have larger widly-spaced sites.

i don't really enjoy going to overly "resort" style campgrounds (you know the ones - pool, gameroom, laundry room, etc.....)

Even though we made the leap to a pop-up - I still like to get as much as the "wilderness" feel as i can (hey - if you open up all the windows on my pop-up it feels like being in a screenhouse).

I love camping, but my idea of camping is probably different than yours.

Mine involves heading down to San Marcos to go tubing with a few girls, camping out the night before, getting really wasted playing drinking games and chatting, going skinny dipping afterwards...hehe, that was a fun little trip.

Yes, I love camping... but have been too busy lately with my new job.

Last time I went camping was at Pennsic (some SCA event). Triumph would have a field day with 1000's of 'dragonmaster' running around.

We camped in a tent for years and then in a VW Van camper. Best times I ever had.
The body is getting too old and weary now.

Any place where you take a queen size air matress with you is NOT camping! Ok well it may fit the "definition", but if the place is a campsite where you have bathrooms and are next to your car, that just ruins it for me. For me, camping means hauling all your equipment on your back, no bathrooms, no campsites, purify your own water, etc. It's a ton of fun though, I'd like to buy me a nice internal frame backpack and rock climbing gear when I have time to use it.

I feel I'm getting old because I just had to purchase an air mattress for the tent because the old ridgerest and the old thermarest just wasn't cutting it this past weekend. I'm heading to Yellowstone in a couple weeks for some much needed r&r. North east corner of the park usually isn't too crowded.

Most state parks a great. (If you aren't backcountry) Find one without showers and the vending machines and you can usually get some peace and quiet and the run of the place.

BIG camper here :D
I have camped in every state including Alaska and Hawaii, most states sveral times over :)

I am not as young as I used to be,so now I go camping in This

RV/pop-up campers, is NOT camping, it's just lame. Camping is backpacking in to your campsite, or at LEAST sleeping in a tent. None of this RV, real mattress, heat/air conditioning, showers, bullsh!t. ;)
