I've seen ads for like a million different kinds... creams, strips, bleaches.

Has anyone used any of them? How well do they work?

The very best OTC whitening stuff gives the same results as baking soda and costs 10x as much

Just brush each day with baking soda for a couple weeks and they'll whiten up

MSN did an article on this a couple of weeks ago, and they found that those Crest Whitestrips work the best since they have the highest concentration of the chemical that the dentists use to whiten teeth. There are some drawbacks however: cost, it only lasts a few months, and they only cover a couple of teeth past your eyeteeth on one side, and the same on the other (i.e. they will only whiten approx. half of your teeth on the top, and half on the bottom. This is simply due to the length of the strip).

The best thing of course is what the dentist uses. From what I read, the whitening effect lasts for years. The dentist's method using the same chemical the over the counter whiteners use, but the dentist uses a concentration of about 30 - 35%, while the most potent over the counter one (the Whitestrips) uses only about 11 - 15%.

I tried those Crest strips and thought "If I keep them on longer, they get whiter" right? Wrong! I kept them on for a few hours a day and after awhile, my teeth started to get real sensitive! Taking anything cold or hot caused my teeth to ache.

Too much of anything is bad...

If it was the more the better, they'd hbave you wear em all night. The effect dis-assembles the composure of whats on the top of your teeth. When you leave it on too long, it begins to de-compose your teeths top layer.

so the Crest ones seem like the way to go?

How often do you put those things on your teeth / how long?

How much do dentists usually charge for this?

Is this considered a trivial claim for insurance? I'm guessing it is.

just spend about 1/2 hr online and research what the dentists use. you can order the kits just like dentists do. they send out the mold and get it back, call you in. you can do the same thing, send out the mold, get it back, start using. simple.

I've been going to student denstists' clinic for cleaning/scraping and filling. The cost of one mold is about $60.
I'm thinking of getting a mold for upper teeth and see how it goes. Once you have the mold, you can get the bleaching agent elsewhere.
