i am looking into purchasing a new vehicle and would like to know what you guys think about this SUV ?

how is the handling ? the acceleration ? I know the MPG isn't all that great...

how is the SE S/C ??? compared the regular SE ??? does the S/C make a large difference in acceleration ?

any comments would be appreciated

WTF, the Xterra is better looking than any ford or GM suv, and has more ground clearance. However, it is a little under powered unless you go with the S/C(supercharged)

Ignore the snide comments. The XTerra is a nice truck. And a TRUCK it is; body on ladder frame, not a wimpy unit body like the Pathfinder/CRV/RAV-4/etc.

I own a 2001 Trooper, which I love. I almost bought an XTerra, but decided on the Troop b/c it is a lot bigger.

In hindsight, I think the XTerra would've been a better move ONLY BECAUSE the aftermarket supports the XTerra a whole lot as opposed to the two or three vendors that support the Troop.

Aftermarket bull bars/racks/etc were always hard to find, but now damn near impossible since the Trooper is extinct as of 2002. :(

All I really need now is an ARB winch bumper/Warn winch/ARB roof rack and I'd be happy.

Oh, that and about $2700 to purchase all the above.

they're not real large inside.

most buyers are women looking for a non-girly ride

Nissan Xterra '00 owner here.

The Handling:
It rides like a truck and handles around the same. The bumps are a little rough, but that's what I expected going into the deal. The turning radius is super tight though, a nice plus.

Acceleration:
I've got the SE model, the '00 models (afaik) didn't have an S/C option. Still, it's plenty 'peppy' enough to get the job done.

MPG:
Sucks, period. But you knew that.

Bottom Line:
I like the 'beefyness' of the Xterra, and the spaciousness is a big plus as well. The Truck is going on 3 years old now and has held up like a champ, my only REAL complaint is the horrible MPG.

A friend of mine was considering the Xterra. He test drove that and a Jeep Liberty. He ended up liking the Liberty a bit more. Too many people have Xterra's these days.
