Any NewsReaders support Multi Connect for single d/l?

I have a NEW FIOS service with a limit of 5 connections for its News Server. Each is not as fast as I would like, so I configured Grabit (XNews does not support Multi connect to the same server). This was better, but I found that Grabit will open 5 threads when downloading 5 or more files, but will only open 1 thread per download. So, if I d/l a 6MB multipart file it only opens 1 thread.

Someone said that Newsleecher will do what I want it to...and even mark old articles as read and remove them...like XNews. Is this true, and does anyone know of any other reader that will do what I want?

TIA

This may not be helpful, but.....What do you mean by "XNews does not support Multi connect to the same server"? I use my ISPs newsgroups, went into Xnews and clicked on the clone button. If an article has 10 headers, I can collect the evens from one server, and the odds from the cloned server. Would that solve your problem? Sorry if this wasn't helpful, or I misunderstood your question.

Well, I can try that. What I meant was that if you are trying to get 1 file, with perhaps 12 parts, and your ISP supports more than one connection (mine supports 5) then the 1 file will get up to 5 parts downloading at a time. This is a BIG help when the ISP has slower single connect speed.

I guess I can look at my XNews again for the CLONE.

Actually, I had thought I would have many people telling me about stuff like NewsLeecher and Newsbin, etc.

Newsleecher will do what you want.
I use it with usenetserver to open 8 connections at the same time.
Its the only thing that maxes out my 10mbit connection.

You can also buy newsleecher via a monthly subscription of 3.00 that gives you access to supersearch.
Supersearch catalogs all postings for the past 130 days so you can just type in a word and all the postings will show up, click the article you want and it will start downloading it.

No need to search each group or download headers for every group.

Great...does it d/l them from their servers? I mean if my isp's servers do not have that group, will it still work at $3 per Month. Also, if I buy the program is the service included?

The only reason I d/l some groups headers is to see what is new and don't know I even want something. 🙂
TIA

You have to use newsleecher with a provider that you pay for.
The 3.00 per month just gives you the program and the supersearch service.
If your isp doesn't have the group or the article then newsleecher will just list it as unable to get that file in the log.
