Advanced Micro Devices revealed during its Analyst Day that it has no plans to release a new family of graphics processing units (GPUs) in 2008, as planned. The decision seems to support the general plan to cut capital expenditures in order to return to profitability, but pose a lot of threat to performance of the firm?s graphics product group, the former ATI Technologies.
Rick Bergman, who is senior vice president and general manager of AMD graphics products group (GPG), did not talk about long-term future of the former ATI business, the Radeon GPUs; but concentrated on talking about current achievements of AMD/ATI, ATI CrossFire X technology as well as products of not-too-distant future, namely ATI R680, ATI RV620 and ATI RV635.
Nevertheless, Mario Rivas, who is executive vice president of computing solutions group revealed in his presentation that the code-named ATI R700-family of products will only be available in 2009.
Apparently, AMD?s next-generation Leo platform, the successor of current Spider platform, will only feature code-named ATI R6xx (ATI Radeon HD 2000-series and ATI Radeon HD 3000-series graphics cards) graphics adapters. The AMD Leo platform is due in 2008, whereas its successor ? the so-called AMD Leo Refresh platform ? that is scheduled to arrive in 2009 will sport code-named ATI R7xx graphics cards. In addition, ATI R700-series graphics will be featured with Kodiak and Cartwheel platforms, which are also scheduled to debut in 2009.

The tech report quotes "fudzilla" which is part of the Inq.
Note how I said "credible" news sources. After that you have a blog and a forum.

All those new articles from Dec. 2007 were based on the R7xx family appearing on a 2009 platform. Nobody at AMD specifically said "R700 is 2009." It was information inferred from a CPU platform roadmap, not a GPU roadmap.
Everything we have seen since then suggests R700 will be launched in late Q2 2008. We have seen numerous reports from fudzilla, however useless they may be, and we have seen images of the RV770 PCB.
Even disregarding that, common sense would suggest R700 is 2008 - AMD launched R600 in Q2 2007 and planned to launch it in Q4 2006, do you really think they planned to wait 2+ years for a new GPU?
I guarantee you R700 will be in 2008, whether AMD meets the Q2 2008 launch target is another story. Recently, though, AMD's graphics division has been executing perfectly, so perhaps Q2 '08 is not far fetched.

Just noticed the Beyond 3d forum link is actually regarding a Fudzilla article from May of last year and the first Fudzilla link is from last year as well. I have yet to see anything newer than the article I posted. Or as I stated anything from a reliable source. I would never consider "Fudzilla" a reliable source. In fact the one Fudzilla link says "On some previous roadmaps the R700 was scheduled for Q1 2008"
I'm not taking bets either way whether it will be next month or next year. I just posted the most credible article I could find on the issue. Q2 starts in a week or so. I would be surprised if the launch was that close as there would have been a lot of leaked info by now.

2nd quarter 2008 release. Can't remember where I read it but it had already gone through it's first spin and it was working well.

Ah, much better. Thanks. That sounds credible. So maybe in June?

If a quarter is 4 months long. How do you get 4 each year?
