Any news on Kyro2?

Has anyone heard anything about the Kyro2? From the look of the frankly underwhelming performance of the GF3 I think the Kyro2 may well be a closer competitor to GF3 than we were all expecting. I hope so as a little competition never did anyone any harm.

no news, but we're all waiting in ernest to hear something! I'm hoping that this card does well though (I'll consider picking one up), because I don't want to have only 2 real competitors in this arena..

Apart from anything else they appear to be hell bent on bringing a card to market at a very reasonable price point, with respectable performance. I'm not interested in the odd 10fps, when frame rates get high enough you get to a point where it makes no difference anymore.ie the difference between 20fps and 30fps is huge, where as the difference between 100fps and 110fps is tiny. I've got a good feeling that they're going to bring Kyro2 to market at less than £150! if they do and it's within 10 fps here and there thewy will sweep up.

Havent heard a thing but I definitely hoipe they make one. While I have no doubt the GF3 would be quite a bit faster as the Kyro is aimed at the price-range of the budget gamer it could still make very a very nice card price/performance wise, and as always there is the ever appealing tile-based rendering architecture for it.

haven't heard anything yet, other than the fact some kryo registry settings (or the driver code?) makes reference to a kryo 2...so it seems plausible that one is coming out...

got this info from reactorcritical awhile ago i believe...

anyway, no question i'm a big fan of the kryo...if they threw on ddr memory and increased the core, no question the card would be killer...and priced moderately decent as well..i'd pick one up as my next gen. card...

I had heard about the reg settings. They stipulate a 166mhz clock speed. Also I heard they had doubled the pipelines. So we may be talking 3 times the real world power of the original Kyro. That may be something to kick Nvidia in the teeth if they make it cheap enough. Also will they need expensive ddr memory with that clock speed?hmmm

KYRO II was announced today by Hercules.

KYRO II

Hopefully, they can get this at a low price, with good drivers and performace.

Does anyone know the specs? Is it DX 8 compliant?

4500 series I believe is just a die shrink and a speed bump. Not really anything new in the way of features.

EDIT: I read Riva Station's preview.. i'd like to see that card come out before I trust those specs..

btw, I can't remember, but didn't the original have DDR SDRAM? If it only had SDRAM what speed was it?

however, if the core has extra pipelines, and a faster clockrate, then the SDRAM would look a bit worse then it did before, but oh well :)

I suspect though that this hercules card may just be a normal Kyro with higher clockrate (no extra pipes, no T&L unit)..

3 times the speed of the old kyro? so what, does that leave the kyro2 somewhere around a geforce 2 ultra? i remember the kyro was running at about the same speed as a tnt2, i'm not sure if it could compete with an ultra though.

it won't, nor is it intended, to compete w/ a geforce ultra...

it should be comparable to a geforce 32mb gts tho.
