So ive competitive gamed for a number of years in tribes, guild wars...and non-competitively obsessed with diablo 2. I built a PC for each of them, but around 2007 or so I gave it up.

I recently saw some Diablo 3 PVP trailers on youtube that looked amazing. It reminded me alot of the guild wars pvp that i loved so much. PVE only lasts so long, even a game as good as GW or Diablo 2...so to meld the two and have D3 pvp, with a rewards system and everything is going to own.

That said, i will get D3 and I will build a new desktop to play it on. The last ive heard was that it was scheduled for a Q4 2011 release...but i havent had my ear to the ground for a while.

Is there any news re: D3 (stuff not on the official website)?

The beta is expected to begin before then.

By whom? And are they familiar with this company called Blizzard? Last I knew they seemed to delight in hiding/extending the release dates of their games. Until it is on the Blizzard website nothing is known.

blizz said that a beta would likely begin in Q3 of 2011, so sometime this summer

they however never said if it was going to be an open or closed beta

Blizzard recently removed the talisman from the game (charms system which they have touted in previous Blizzcons), citing that they don't have enough time to make the system satisfactory before release. In other words, they definitely have deadlines for beta and release that they are trying to adhere to.

Blizzard mantra is 'When its ready, we'll release it'. Or something along that line. Its one of their famous trademark sayings. Its garnered them a lot of respect over the years. It kinda pisses off the impatient gamers though. LOL

Hardly a beloved or trademarked saying, but it's something Blizzard has been known to do. They don't have a silly trademarked quote or some stupid garbage like that... it's just a mindset. They've said everything from "it's ready when it's ready" to "we put in the time to make it as bug free as possible"... it's all the same thought.

Trademarked saying he says... lol

I am glad they do that.
However, it's because they have good track records to justify it and can also afford to. Other smaller companies/developers will just get laughed at by the publishers.

I somehow think he didn't mean they literally have it trademarked...

They have had WoW as a cash-cow, so why rush putting out game that probably takes players away from a pay per month subscription service?

Also, 'impatient' gamers is a little silly. We have been waiting 10+ years now.

Release date is tentatively set for 2012, but that's Blizzard Time, which works similar to Valve Time.

Why would you build a new rig just for diablo 3? Its not like its going to break any PC..hell you could play in on a pc a couple years ago fine.

D3 videos /screenshots look pretty bland so far. Prob because of the long development cycle makes them that way. lol

Yes, but blizzard probably only started development 4 years ago, if that.

Diablo 3 began development in 2001 after D2:LoD was released. Of course, I'm sure that they didn't have the same resources on it back then as they do now.
