Any news on any new X399 boards with more than 11 phase other than MSI ?

I am getting the new 2990wx 32 core CPU when it comes out, and I think thats soon, but I don't like MSI. I would love a 19 phase or greater X399 Taichi. I have heard no news, and no dates on the MSI or the chip.

In that they link to an extremem motherboard, but still with only 13 phase. MSI had 19. I want ASRock to build a Taichi with 19 more more
I've only glanced at the MSI board, is it true 19 phase? Guess I'll have to see if Buildzoid will do a teardown and look a little closer myself (currently have Zenith Extreme).

I'm not a big fan of MSI, but their X470 Gaming M7 got good reviews and the B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC looks like one of the few really good B450 boards. I Like their decision to put USB BIOS flashback on their new boards - not just high end. I'd like to see other manufacturers follow that practice.

Well, that was in the 32 core TR video that it had 19 phase VRM, but I have not seen a review yet. I also don't know when the CPU and the new motherboards will preview. Should be soon, I can't wait.

I heard Steve from Hardware Unboxed talk about testing TR2 next week, so release is right around the corner.

I believe the MSI board has a doubled 8 phase for CPU power, using actual doublers not just double the amount of components, so in practice it's very close to a true 16 phase.

i highly advise against gigabyte.
My X299 G9 required an RMA.
I had to get 2 repalcements from them for a working board and i am lucky because the g9 was replaced by the designware.

I have to admit i did get RMA refurbished replacements quickly and on advance RMA, which is much better then the poor service ASUS has now, but u figure for a flag ship board, they wouldnt have had to send me the board twice to get my issue resolved.

Also the refurbished was not what i consider a true refurbished.
It had signs of use all over the board... it was most likely they just repaired it, didnt bother changing out any of the thermal pads, or even giving it a ultrasonic wash.

Seriously tho... next board i get will be ASRock... for AMD, or a eVGA for Intel.

Well, I checked at 3 am (PST) before I hit the buy key, and I found no updated motherboard, including the MSI, so I am going to TRY and see if the X399 Taichi can handle that 32 core monster (2990WX) that I ordered. I also may be doing custom water, but to get up and running at stock, the $122 Enermax TR4 360 should be fine for now. I can always move that over to the 1950X thats on a bad 360 AIO.

All parts on the way except the CPU release date is 8/13, next Monday, but its preordered. I can't wait to see what this monster can do.

Let us know how it works with your Taichi. I just saw a message from elmor suggesting the Zenith Extreme is going to need that cooler ASUS has for cooling the VRM.

Performance wise, I have no idea. It will likely be a great CPU for you.

But one thing it will do for sure is drive that energy bill up a little bit. ;)

What phase is the Zenith extreme ? I don't see it anywhere.

8+3. Here's what elmor said:
Threadripper 2 info

Any existing motherboard will have major problems when overclocking the new 24/32C CPUs. The very low output voltage (default can be as low as 0.900V) really kills VRM efficiency. SOC current is almost doubled due to twice the number of dies being active, it can reach 60-70A when running memory at 3200MHz and above at increased SOC voltages. Additionally voltage monitoring on the board is reading way off under load due to the extreme currents. We have implemented improved EC readings from the VRM controllers for CPU/SOC/DRAM which will be available whenever we get a bios with ACPI WMI. Those voltages are not yet used by BIOS or AiSuite, I'll attempt to get that as well.

Well. with no motherboards better than the Taichi, and no coolers better than the Enermax, I just have to run that way until better stuff is available I guess. Stock for now will have to suffice.

Custom with a Watercool Heatkiller? I'm a little curious about the Cooler Master Wraith Ripper.

Anything new on this topic? I'm thinking a TR will be my eventual upgrade, maybe my 7nm and I'm doing a little digging on MB info,

Thanks

I am pretty sure. Might need a bios update.AMD has daid these sockets are good for years, until at least past Zen3.

Once I pay off this monster, I will be getting a 2950x. I already have an extra Taichi X399

I don't know why in the back of my mind I'm thinking, what the new AMD motherboards will feature when 7nm comes out? I've been using X58 machines since they came out. I'm actually ignorant to what's new with the succession of motherboards. I think the only thing my gaming board could use is an updated USB 3.0 slot. My UD7 Rev2.0 has them but I'm not sure they are the best to be using.

Do you have the parts laying around to complete the 2950X?
