In 2008 I noticed that some people were talking about doing Star Control 3 and Master of Orion 4? Does anyone know if they are still interested and when they will be ready? ;)

If they did release Star Control 3 and Master of Orion 4 then they can put me down for both because I loved them. :)

MOO3 was horrible, but I loved 1 & 2 so much I'd be more than willing to give them another chance. I could use a good 4X space strategy game right about now.

I haven't heard about either of these games recently, but Galactic Civilizations 3 is scheduled for a late 2010 release I believe. (similar to MoO)

Err, there's already a Star Control 3 - but it pretty much goes in a completely different direction and wasn't made by Toys for Bob. You're thinking of the TRUE sequel of Star Control 2 which Toys for Bob mentioned they were requesting permission to do (from Accolade/Activision/Atari/Whomever actually has the rights).

They're not YET working on it, but they haven't let go of the idea. There's an interesting note on their web page under Star Control 2... "You know you still want another!"

Did you play Sins of a Solar Empire? Great game for online multiplayer.

Unofficial word is MOO 3 killed the franchise. Quicksilver has no current interest in making a new one and nobody wants to purchase the license.
And the fact that GalCiv 2 was made quicker and recieved better probably means not many folks want to compete with a shaky franchise. I'd really like to see a proper Imperium Galactica 3 but for the same reason as above, I bet no one wants to bother even trying.

The space conquest is dead. And if it werent for Sins and EVE, the space genre would be dead. Maybe when we get tired of crusty space marines blasting demons and aliens we will see some more cerebral games, eventually. I was gonna make a contrast to WW2 games but I think those are on the way out as well.

Check out Light of Altair on Steam. I've been playing it every night and having a tough time on some of the later missions. It's pretty good, and pretty cheap. Real-time, not turn-based though.

MoO is dead and buried that game was such a cluster $%& that it's difficult for me to comprehend it in it's completeness. Seriously, I think it may have been worse than Daggerfall. Except Daggerfall was actually fun when it wasn't crashing/bugging out. MoO3 was more stable, but it was clear it was made by people who had no idea how to actually make a complicated program.

Toys for BoB (the makers of Star Control) is owned by Activision thesedays, I doubt you will ever see another game like SC2 (or any other non-casual game) from them again.

Don't be so sure of that.

I could use another homeworld game, but one on the scale of the original...the sequels seemed too easy to me.

We can live in hope because the Star Control games are classics so they will be revived again ;)

I would compare GC2 more favorably to MoO than SOSE. Not that SOSE is a bad game, but it isn't really a 4x game and has far less in common with Master of Orion than Galactic Civilizations does.
