Any new word on Sony's NGP?

Sony released some new details on the cartridges it uses. They also said the cameras would feature head-tracking and face recognition. Games will also only have access to three out of four CPU cores. Presumably for some sort of multitasking.

I'm just really hoping for nothing higher than a $299.99 release but knowing Sony this is going to be a $349.99 launch. I'm just hoping the wifi only version ends up a little cheaper than the 3g one.

I'd be surprised if it's that much for the Wi-Fi version. Apple's mainline portable is $299, and the 3DS is $250. Sony can be colossally dumb sometimes, but I can't see them repeating the PS3's mistake again.

Well last week an exec confirmed that they think it will still be out in holiday 2011 in NA.

I want to see the release games but I'm pretty sure day 1 for me.

PSP always was a great rpg system (and not much else) but that was always good enough for me. If it is at least that, I'll be happy.

I bet that in the future they will unlock the fourth core for games to use. Remember how the PSP was originally locked to 222MHz but later was unlocked to its full 333MHz capability?

Possibly. I think it's more to enable something similar to the PS3's in-game XMB. The PS3 has a six core processor but only five are accessible.

The PSP was never properly supported by Western developers & publishers, unfortunately.

^ Actually The PS3's Cell CPU has eight SPEs, One of which is either completely disabled or is only there if one fails. Another one is reserved to the Hypervisor. The remaining six cores are usable for games.

Oh I can totally see them going $300+ on us. They've already called Nintendo's 3DS a $249 babysitting toy for children. I can see them going the big boy toy route and starting it at around 299.99 for the wifi version.
