Not sure if the kids you're dealing with aren't smart enough to use anything beyond toys

Yea, all the kids I know are dying to edit their very own Excel spreadsheets. I think a Windows tablet is perfect for high school or college-aged young adults.

Why did you sell your Helix? Is it because you thought it was from Lenova but the company is actually called Lenovo? ;)

Anyway, I'm serious. In this thread HERE you seem to really like it. I'm wondering what changed your mind. I have one incoming because I convinced our IT department at work that it would make for a good work tablet/laptop and I get to pilot it (we've already had a few Surface Pros we've used, so now we're seeing if the Helix form factor is better). If there's a longer term issue I should know about it'd be nice to hear.

lol, my spelling is bad. I admit it! :)
The Helix is probably still the best tablet hybrid I ever owned but after a while I just didn't "love" it like I did at the beginning. No real reason I can pinpoint. Performance was amazing and look and feel wowed everyone who seen it. I guess my biggest gripe was the size. I really wanted, and still do, want a larger tablet. 12, 13+. After playing with the new HP's I'm definitely in love with them. I bought one for my wife and she's pretty rough on devices so I'll see how it turns out.

If it's for the kids then I would suggest an Android tablet. This is simply because, when you give the kid the Win8 tablet you will get, "But all my friends have ...." instead of a thankyou.

In other words, try to find out what the kids find cool before paying out the dosh.

If my kids would say "but all my friends have" then whatever they got is either being returned or used by me.

Edit: Deleted what I replied because it was too off topic. Sorry about that. :)

Having used the surface for a good bit now, I am wondering if 10.6" is simply too small. I've been kind of eyeing a first-gen Yoga.

I rarely walk around working on a tablet or sit in a position where all the weight is unsupported so to me larger = better. There's a limit of course but even the HP Split 2 seemed like a great choice and not too large.

Yeah, the problem mainly is that I want a tablet that can sometimes work as a laptop. Not a laptop I can sometimes use as a tablet.

I know if I do decide to go the bigger route because I feel like a 10.6" screen on W8 is just too small, I'll then likely also pick up an iPad Mini so that I can have something small and then I start wondering what the whole point is in everything anyways and get frustrated and have to stop thinking about it for a while.

But the V8P is a steal at $100. It would work great as that smaller companion device.

Anyways, here's what I settled on:
3 Nokia 2520 for the 3 youngest.
2 Surface 2's for 2 more
2 Surface Pro's for high schoolers
HP Split x2 ultrabook for the wife.
Surface Pro 1 for a couple other family members. Great price on clearance!
I'm a big fan of Windows 8.1 tablets, but I'm baffled why anyone is buying neutered Windows RT tablets for the same or more money.

Buy a Venue 8 Pro for anyone needing an inexpensive tablet. They're going to be $99/$199 at the Microsoft Store on December 9th.

Well the Dell Venue 8 Pro sold out pretty quick. Not even available at $200 anymore.

Yeah, you had to be at the MS store in Charlotte by 6 to get a number.

Should be able to pricematch the $200 price to staples or walmart though.

I'd be surprised. Microsoftstore.com went back to showing the price at $300.

Doh! It's showing back in stock now. I was just able to place an order, though cancelled it at the last step since I really didn't want one. So I guess the deal is still kicking at $200 if anyone is still interested.

Edit: PS the website is acting real funny. I get an OOS at $300 view soemtimes and other times $200. So I guess keep trying.

I was able to go to the main ms store page, click on view deal, then add to cart and checkout without any issues (though I didn't check all the way out).

Okay, now I ordered the damn thing even though I don't really think I want it. Doh!
It's a good price, but I'd rather have a larger tablet. I'm trying to get myself to pickup the phone and cancel (can't seem to cancel through the website), but having trouble dialing the numbers.
