Any new tech coming out that warrants waiting before building a new PC?

I'm looking to upgrade my current system (Mac Pro 2008, 8-core, 3.0ghz) to a hackintosh. I'm competent enough to build my own system with parts and can flash my own gear to work into a hackintosh, but what I don't know is what's just around the corner when it comes to the advancements of computing technology. I'm used to paying a premium from buying Apple gear so I'm not necessarily looking for a super cheap rig. I'm just not interested in spending $6,000 for the top of the line Mac. I'm willing to spend quite a pretty penny in comparison in the PC world though. What I'm wondering is whether or not there will be any major advancements known to be coming out in the near future that would warrant me to not buy my rig. I know that anything new probably wouldn't be supported when using my rig in Mac mode until Jobs acknowledges it's existence, but I would still like to future proof my rig in case it becomes supported, not to mention I could still use it in PC mode.

Now, I know newer gear will always come out, speed bumps here and there, smaller chips, etc. Those minor updates I'm not worried about because they're unavoidable. What I'm talking about are significant changes to what would be considered standards. Changes from 32 to 64 bit computing, move from single to multicore processing, as well as multi GPU processing, and to a lesser sense, a new chipset socket or the move from USB2 to USB3 are all examples of what I'm talking about.

So anyone have any information on this?

As a starter, I've been looking at getting 2x Xeon X5690s on a EVGA SR-2 board.

The AMD "Bulldozer" should be coming out in the early summer of 2011. But I'm unsure how well that would work as a hackintosh

In the Intel 2P workstation space, you're not going to see anything interesting until Sandy Bridge-EP comes out Q4'11/Q1'12. I'd probably not do X5690's though, the 130W TDP is killer compared to the 95W X5675.
