Any new smartphones coming to sprint in the next couple of months?

I want to jump on Sero before sprint finally cracks down on giving it to everybody who reads hot deal sites. But it seems their best smart phone, while good is getting a bit dated being more then a year old. I am speaking of the mogul.

I really just want a decent cell phone that I can use to keep track of my life with a task list/planner, email, a good web browser is a plus, a physical keyboard is also a plus(Qwerty, suretype, regular dial pad, doesn't really matter to me) but I can live with a touchscreen if the rest of the phone is awesome, and GPS enabled too. The bigger the screen the better. Not too concerned about size or weight really.

The mogul seems like the current best smartphone for sprint, although I don't know much about the blackberry's, so maybe I am missing out on something there. Should I jump on the mogul or wait for something on the near horizon?

htc touch pro...gsm version is coming out soon, but sprint will get it in september-october. has wifi, 3.2MP camera, physical slideout qwerty keyboard, touchscreen.

they also have a non keyboard version called the htc touch...exactly the same specs, just no keyboard.

The instinct, right? I almost forgot about that.

I didn't knwo they were getting the touch pro, that might be worth looking into. I wasn't a huge fan of the touch though and I know the mogul can use the touchflo interface, so the benefit of the touch is lost on me at least.

Motorola Q9c isn't too bad, first phone with the Windows Mobile 6.1 update.

My friends sued to have a q9(not sure which version) he did not seem pleased with it much.

That's the Instinct which comes out on the 20th of this month. Can't wait. I just purchased a Curve 8330 which I'm in love with but that phone looks down right sexy. Thank god I have 30 days to try out my BB.

By the way OP, head to a Sprint store and check out the 8330. It does everything I want it to do and more. Internet is fast, great camera, great video, keys are spaced out good, great screen, great phone.

Yeah the more I look, the more I keep finding good mention of the 8330. Although I got a bit of bad news from a friend today. He is with Sprint and did not seem happy with reception in the area. But his phone is several years old, so I believe it could be the problem. Poor customer service I can probably deal with, as I have yet to really use them in my time with verizon. But good reception is a must.

I just wish verizon's data plans weren't so expensive. I don't think I will use it enough to justify 80+ dollars a month. But it would be nice to have when I do need it.

I get great reception with my 8330. For the first time ever, I get very good service in the building where I work. Before with my A920, I couldn't get service in the building - not even on roaming.

Does roaming only cost you if you actually make a call while roaming? I have not had to deal with roaming with verizon. Sprint seems to have good coverage in my area. But there does appear to be a decent sized roaming area along a route I take maybe once a month.

unless it's changed in the last decade, that is how roaming works.

i have to wonder when the samsung omnia will drop. the instinct isn't even out and the omnia is going to kick it's butt.

Roaming is 100% free on sprint, except if you go into Canada or Mexico of course.

i read a statement from sprint - they are not billing it as an iphone killer, but rather as an iphone competitor.

i am really diggin my mogul. with the latest firmware it is very snappy, battery life is improved, bluetooth works great and GPS is kick ass + it has the newer faster revision of 3g data speeds. with a few third party proggies like HTC Home and Slick & a lil flashlight proggie that uses your camera flash as a flashlight,

this thing is just a great phone.

i need a physical keyboard so it works for me.

when the mogul was first released it was not worth it, bluetooth didnt work, the earpiece volume was terrible, battery life was so so - so that was a strike for sprint, but they did stick to the firmware updates and now it is running like a champ. yes it is a year old but now it has matured past its growing pains.

oh and not to mention, it has a user replaceable battery. i have a spaire seido slim extended battery - i can swap them out anytime, i find that a big plus.

also, if u get a moto BT headset kit from costco, the usb car charger charges the mogul too. pretty convenient.

it doesnt have that cool touch interface, nor is it an amazing media player, not terrible but not great - but if u want something for the internet, GPS, PDA, email, instant messaging, text, etc - it is a great phone.

if u want something more for media playback, look for the instinct i think.

I'm picking up the instinct end of the month. Looks to be a great phone for people who do web browsing and what not.

Some nice features. Will it kill the iphone? No but I love my 99 everything plan and it will stil be a great phone all around.

I thought the omnia was gsm only,at least at first, thats the windows mobile one right?

Instinct comes out June 20th, but as it stands now you'll have to switch to one of the everything plans, so sero wont work.

If you get a blackberry you'll have to pay $30 a month for the blackberry plan.

I remember reading something about an "HTC Diamond" but i'm not sure when its supposed to be released

I would take another look at the reviews if I were you. Most of them say the web browser on the instinct is crap. I am not sure if you can somehow use Opera mini on it or not. I am guessing not, since it's not a true smart phone. But maybe someone will find a way to do it. And the touchscreen keyboard lacks the pop up letters of the iphone, so it seems like it would be a bit of a pain to type on.

I am a bit stuck on what to do. I wouldn't mind waiting for the iphone 2 and instinct to arrive, but I have heard a rumor that Sero may be gone on the 15th, so I am thinking I should jump on it now just to be safe. Although I suppose I do have 30 days to try the curve and also see what the other phones look like. When does iphone 2 release, the 11th of July?

I did get to play with a curve today at best buy. It wasn't activated, so I couldn't text, call, browse the web or IM from it. But the look of the OS was cool. The trackball worked well. The keyboard is small(I figured I would be okay because I have small fingers, but it was tight. It didn't seem to cause me any errors while typing, but yeah it was tight.

Can the blackberry stream media using orb or a slingbox application?

I know if I get a blackberry on sero it's gonna cost me 60 bucks a month for 500 minutes. But that same plan with verizon is 100/month, and the verizon curve is missing out on a lot that the sprint curve has.

I havent heard this at all. Remember SERO isnt advertised publicly ANYWHERE, so Sprint isnt gonna make a disclaimer "Everything Plan only, including SERO". It will get too many people asking about it, and retail stores cant do anything with it.

This is what I get if I try to order SERO with a Pearl:

BlackBerry Data Services

A BlackBerry Data Service Pack is required to complete your BlackBerry purchase. For a limited time, the Unlimited Data Pack is specially priced at $39.99/mo when you buy a Sprint Voice Plan and a 2-year subscription agreement on the same device. Because of this special pricing, no additional discounts apply.

I have heard that if you pick a non blackberry at the beginning, then go all the way to the end and change to a blackberry then, that you can avoid the blackberry plan.

I just got my curve. It's charging as I speak, what do I do to break it in? I think I need to head over to crack berry and starting reading about what cool programs and accessories I "need"

I know it's been a few days since you got your Curve just be aware of a few things:

1. After browsing with Opera, Google search, etc, make sure you hit the blackberry key then exit or close. Just pressing the end call key will not close it completely and data will be used when it's open which slows down the rest of the functions of the phone.
2. Be aware of third party software. I downloaded a few reputable programs that slowed my phone down a lot. Many of them required me to pull the battery, not because of natural restart when installing something new just because I couldn't use my phone at all.
