Any new gaming monitors on the horizon?

So building a new rig later this summer (Skylake) and everything is getting replaced including my monitors. I really want to take advantage of G-Sync and have been looking at the ROG Swift (I have Asus monitors now and like them) and the Acer XB280HK bprz. I would just bite on the Swift right now if it didn't have as many bad reviews as it does. Does anyone know of any other options, either current or upcoming to compare against these two?

i would wait for second generation sync technology. it shouldn't be too far away (methinx), more so with nvidia needing to do something that's "better than freesync".

Has there been any word on that? I can wait if there is something concrete but I'm definitely getting the itch to move to something beyond 1080.

For stuff coming soon, the Acer Predator XR341CK looks amazing....

I am planning to 'gift' my current LG 3440x1440 to the wife once a newer ultra-wide is released with both g-sync and freesync (if that's possible). I don't want to get locked-into any specific vendor and would like the tech to mature a bit. Hoping around year-end maybe?

That Predator does look sexy, but only 75Hz? Doesn't the ULMB feature of G-Sync only kick in starting at 85Hz?

That would be damn nice (and pricey, but that's to be expected). I wish the QA on the Swift was better. I could get one now and then see what happens in Q4.

I'm waiting a while to see what new freesync monitors have to offer in the near future.

Excited for the HP Dreamcolor Z32X. Full LED backlit 32" UHD IPS monitor with HDMI 2.0. Gonna cost a pretty penny. $4K anyone? Lol

From what I gather DP 1.2 has enough bandwidth, but just barely. I wonder if Gsync adds overhead?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort#1.2
Effective bandwidth: 17.28 Gbit/sec.
That is: 17.28 / 8 = 2.16 GByte/sec.

Bytes in a 1080p frame: 3 * 1920 * 1080 = 6220800 bytes = 6.22 MByte.
Maximum framerate attainable: 2160MB / 6.22MB = 347 frames/sec.

Bytes in a 1440p frame: 3 * 2560 * 1440 = 11059200 bytes = 11.06 MByte.
Max framerate: 2160MB / 11.06MB = 195 frames/sec.

Bytes in a 2560x1080 frame: 3 * 2560 * 1080 = 8294400 bytes = 8.29MB.
Max framerate: 2160MB / 8.29MB = 260 frames/sec.

Bytes in a 3440x1440 frame: 3 * 3440 * 1440 = 14860800 byts = 14.86MB.
Max framerate attainable: 2160MB / 14.86MB = 145 frames/sec.

So 3440x1440 would be really pushing it.
If there's even a little information sent over the cable besides pure frames, there will not be enough to attain 144Hz. Now most monitors won't have speakers. But if you want to send audio over the cable too, you're not gonna attain 144Hz. Also, even when the spec says you can transport 2.16GB/sec, it doesn't mean there are actually chips on the market that can deal with that max speed. It might be a practical decision to not push it to the limits.

My next monitor will be one of the 34-35" ultra wides. I'm waiting until the right one is launched. I've had my fill of the 27" 1440p monitors. I got my first one about 2-3 years ago. I'm not stuck on 144hz for the ultra wide because of the amount of GPU power it would take to actually push that, but gsync/freesync is a must and 75hz is tempting.
