Any new <25ms LCD displays/panels in the market?

I'm in the market again for a sub 25ms 17"-19" LCD, but I hesistate to go with the displays built with the AUO 16ms panel, seeing as its old enough that there should be a replacement now or soon...

I was leaning towards the 20ms hyundai panels in their ImageQuest line, as I hear they are good and have a true color range unlike the AUO panels.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Love you hear from Kris on this one too...

Any idea if they are using a 16m color 16ms panel, or another 260k color trick like AUO?

Well in the HardOCP thread someone emailed Samsung, and they said:

"172X has 16.2 millions colours and use therefore indeed of 6 a bit panel."

The 172x uses the same panel as the 173P.

I think there 260k color trick as clever, I'd just like them to get to 16ms the true way too. Know of any 20ms panels other than the Hyundai?

If the panel has 16.2M colors, then it's an 262K color panel which uses dithering to achieve the 16.2M, which seems to be the case with all TN panels. Don't know if it's a technology limitation or just a manufacturer preference. On the other hand, all MVA, PVA and IPS panels are listed as having the usual 16.7M colors as a standard. The 172X has a TN panel and is listed as having 16.2M colors, therefore using dithering, while the 173P is a PVA panel and is listed as having 16.7M colors (no dithering)...

I'm fairly sure I've seen TN panels that are true 16.7m color panels, and from what I know, its not a technology limitation, but a trick used to increase response time.

I hate how tricky it is that they say one thing but really mean something else. I don't want dithered colors, I want that ACTUAL amount.

In addition to rade's clarification I would add that the PVA panel has a much greater contrast and viewing angle (178 degrees spec should be the same as CRT). Be glad that that the P will be available instead of the X!

I'm really just hoping for a solid LCD to pop up with current generation panels...17", 18", 19" with 20ms response or below, at a decent price point...

maybe I should wake up and smell the history ;)
